Did Freddie get cancelled?

It's not on ABC's website anymore and I haven't seen any info about new shows.

reply

yup its not coming back for a second season unless *hopefully* they change their minds and pick it up for mid season

reply

Figures. One of the only really funny sitcoms on TV and really the best on ABC gets the axe. How much do those TV execs make?

reply

I agree...This show was hilarious. I am bummed....but I bet there will be yet another installment of CSI that premieres......Any takers on CSI:Birmingham...or maybe CSI:Baton Rouge....blah

reply

I can't believe it didn't get renewed! Hopefully they'll pick it up mid-season. It's a great show.

reply

ABC has a habit of not renewing good shows, remember Commander in Chief? If you look at their lineup, it would seem the execs at ABC are content with hour long dramas and reality shows. I remember when it was known for it's good sitcoms, it looks like CBS is the sitcom king now.

reply

I agree with ryanc0415, ABC has a bad habit of being a bit behind the times when it comes to riding the trend. Reality shows have hit their high point and are starting to come down in popularity. It seems like everything has already been done and now for some reason they are trying to copy whatever CBS did a few years ago -- uu-hum ABC execs, just an FYI, they were last in the ratings at that point.

I certainly did not think this show was the best on TV and did think it focused a little to much on picking up "chicks" and "scoring", but just when Freddie found someone he could settle down with, they pull the rug out from under them.

you do realize that CSI is a different station then ABC?
Lets hope that another station will pick up Freddie and revive it. ABC originally had JAG and tanked it after the first season, NBC (I believe) picked it up and ran it what? 6 or 7 years?
Other then focusing on "getting" the girl (which is similar to Two and a half men) Freddie was a pretty funny show and should be given a chance somewhere.

reply

Um... NBC had JAG for one year and CBS picked it up for the remainder of the series run.

This only happens to the good shows....for instance this one there cancelled (and in my opinion) half the sucky ones are still one for instance "Lost" and "Greys Anatomy"(Used to be good but is getting boring to me) Im sorry but this to me has to be one of the sucky ones still on. However there are still more

reply

Freddie was awesome and I thought it was very hilarious, Brian Austin Green's character was funny, and Jacqueline Obradors is sexy. ABC executives sometimes wouldn't know a good show if it bit them on their ass. I can name alot of good sitcoms that ABC has cancelled the past 9 seasons.

reply

Okay, a little inside information here:

"Freddie" was picked up for a second season in April of this year. Freddie Prinze and cast all got the go-ahead, however, in May with the promotion of ABC Daytime head Brian BS Frons, it suddenly disappeared from the lineup. WHY???

The actress Tamara Braun (who played Rose the bakery chef) was on the ABCD soap opera "General Hospital" from 2001-2005 and left due to problems she was having with Frons, Jill Farren Phelps and Bob Guza (the head writer.) The problem? They didn't like her portrayal of the character of Carly Corinthos and she made it known she didn't want to stay unless there was no character growth. They believed because she was a relative newbie, she'd jump at the chance of renewing her contract, however, they still refused to deal with her and would not go into negotiations. She decided since the call had gone out for a new actress for the role, she would leave. Frons has had it out for her ever since, even have all traces of her ever existing on the show eradicated. A first in the genre.

So now comes "Freddie". Tamara had been told by Freddie Prinze she would be a semi-regular (due to Tamara's desire to do other roles outside TV) and that Rose would be back in season two. Frons comes in and makes a backdoor deal to get rid of the show and thus deprive Tamara of the ability to come back.

That's how come "Freddie" was cancelled.

Yikes, no periods in that passage. I almost died.

reply

Well at least it still says 2005 - ?????
So maybe there's still a chance they will air some more episodes.

reply

ABC has pretty much nothing left to watch. I don't even watch it as much as I did because of Freddie getting cancelled. And Alias. At least Lost is still on, that's an okay show. I think Freddie should get picked back up. If ABC is worried about ratings competiton, then they should move it. Didn't it come on Wednesday? I say move to Friday or something.

ABC, bring back this show!!! You guys suck without it!!!

reply

It was cancelled because the writing, acting, and just about everything else is simply terrible. Not even remotely funny.

What show were you watching? This show is hillarious

reply

the show was awesome....i mean this guy must not know what he was saying. he's just another bush-bashing loser.

reply

The show was funny, sure maybe the characters ere a little cliched, but they were good interpretations. Brian A Green was very funny in it, he and Freddie were good as best friends. I do hope this show gets picked up again, it was a very good comedy.

Is there someone to write to? A petition to sign? I think Freddie was one of the best shows to come along in a long time!

reply

Hahaha. This post was hilarious. I love the whole "cancelling a TV show" conspiracy theory. You do realize that ABC is a business, and as a business is inclined to want to make money? If a show gets crap ratings, advertisers aren't going to want to pay alot to advertise on it, if at all. That's how TV shows get cancelled. Not some wacky theory like the one above.

reply

Ummmm, you irrationalism WOULD be hilarious if not for the fact "Freddie" was getting respectable ratings and taking its timeslot consistently, of not better than its lead-in show "George Lopez." ABC decided to go with Lopez over Freddie (again, it was getting the better ratings.) Freddie got the go-ahead in April for a new season then in May after the promotion of Brian BS Frons to a higher position at ABC, suddenly a show that got the go for a second season, is miraculously cancelled. Freddie was also getting good revenues, in that it DID have some top advertisers who consistently bought time during the show....

You figure out the theory then of cancelling a show that was getting respectable ratings then suddenly gets the pull.

How many seasons was Lopez into when Freddie aired? Gotta give the show some time to really get good ratings. I really hate all the networks. They axe the good stuff, don't do enough to keep the cast (i.e. the second season of 'the loop' they lost the 2 younger girls from the cast), and they keep putting on these crappy reality tv shows and crime dramas. Honestly, how much of that can you watch on a weekly basis before being bored to tears??

Grey's is getting duller and duller since half-way through the second season, Scrubs is just in the toilet since the 5 season, and the few new shows that are on now will probably get axed. Dirty Sexy Money seemed interesting, but no new eps are airing, Big Shots is ok, but no good comedy in it, and the show The Big Bang Theory might get canceled since they havent had new episodes since november/december.

Tv is almost dead to me. Wish these execs would get their heads straight.

reply

I think George Lopez had been on four seasons when Freddie came on. And I agree with you on how long to keep a show on before cancelling it. Problem is, the networks are so damn fickle anymore and if any show isn't what they feel it should have been, they yank it. Problem with Freddie was, it was very good and the ratings were pretty fair. I captured its timeslot every week so I don't get why it was cancelled.

I really don't watch GA. I'm looking forward to "New Amsterdam" on FOX, but given their track record, I'm not holding out hope for this excellent show. I've seen the pilot online and I think it's perfect. FOX will can it after the initial eight episodes. The star is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, one of the ensemble of "Black Hawk Down" so they've got a proven commodity. But most times, they do not give the shows their due before the great big yank!

Geez, I REALLY loved that show, it was hilarious :-s I can't believe other crappy shows survive a 2nd season, and this one that was so awesome got cancelled! What a bummer.... UGH!

reply

i really liked that show. but if you go to tv.com it is confirmed "Freddie" is canceled.

reply

if the rumours are true, why not just get rid of her and keep the show on?
i'ts not like she was essencial, never liked her actually.

reply

only hilarious character was Brian Austin Green's character.

anyways, ABC ioftne does stupid things like this - like when they cancelled Invasion for not getting more than million viewers following Grey´s Anatomy....and then it turned out that the show that took it's place this season was worse and got worse ratings - way to go!

reply

Wow. I personally thought the show was lame and difficult to watch. And it seems no one misses it.

reply

I agree. It's totally lame - especially the part of the Spanish speaking grandmother. I mean - what the hell is an anachronism like that doing there? Good riddance!

reply

other than lost this is the only show i ever liked on ABC and they reaking cancelled it......but any who freddie is half puerto rican in real life and on the show, which explains the grandmother

reply

I agree with the people who said it was lame. It was SO bad. I couldn't make it through a whole epsidoe. So corny and dumbed-down and "sitcom-y". Just horrible. How could anyone like it? They must be a litlle slow or little kids maybe. Sad.

reply

My point exactly. I was like, NO WAY! How could all these people enjoy such crap like this?!!

I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger!

reply

It's not on the ABC website because it was cancelled about 6 years ago!
