OH HELL NO!! THIS SHOW MUST GO!!!

As someone who enjoyed the first Soul Food and thought the second one was okay, I looked forward to the conversations about real issues about stuff that people actually talk about and was looking forward to watching people that I actually care about. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS.

I turned there on Sunday and Calvin and his wife were talking about pussy! The show was actually titled "Whose pussy is that". In the first show he ranted and raved about how well she gave him a blow job so that he could hire Ramadal. Then on another occasion Eddie's character was asleep with a woman he didn't seem to know very well nor did he seem to be able to recall how she got there. Now there's a real responsible concept we want to show people. Then he got in the shop and repeated *beep* over and over in regards to talking about sex. Who the hell is writing this nonsense about nothing!

This show has got to go it is too tacky and doesn't live up to the real conversations and heart of the original Barberfood. I give up!!!

I AM what I AM

Wrong. This show is da bomb-diggity.

reply

LLLLLOOOOOLLLL! Yeah right..........you're not serious right?

Ofcourse you're not.

I AM what I AM

i am a bit disappointed by the drastic changes made. i mean i could watch the Barbershop movies with my family, including my 5 year old neice and younger cousins despite the small amount of objectionable meaterial. it was bad enough when they (for no reason) changed and got rid of certain characters as well as introducing new ones, but now this is ridiculous!!!! I have to say, i dont hate the show but i sure as hell dont love it. I'm still waiting for it to grow on me but for now its just tolerable.

reply

This show is easily the best ever put on television.

reply

I agree MotherMayI. This show is terrible.

This is an adult show for ADULTS....not intended for the family unit...if ya dont like it dont watch it...watch some cosby show reruns or somethin

reply

Where is the simularity to the Barbershop movies? I'm sorry, but someone saying the word bi*ch in every sentence is not entertaining.

reply

The show is loosely based on the movie....not every series based on a movie is going to be just like it was in that movie. Look at Buffy The Vampie Slayer for instance. Look bottom line is...if u dont like the show dont watch, im sure u have a remote control

reply

If you don't like this show then get yourself a shrink, cause theres something wrong with you.

reply

Why are people so stupid that they continue to attack other people JUST because of a difference of opinion? Why do these people continue to even use the internet?

I did not like the show either. Ain't a damn thing wrong with me, or any of the other people who did not like it, and we do not need a shrink.

Now the acting and the scripit was incredibly poor. Soul food the series was great. This show did not last at all.

ummm...Whats Barberfood?

So what is more realistic?
A movie that is watered down so people could watch it with 5 year olds or a TV show about a workplace where adults talk about adult stuff?

I expected this show to suck.
It was dead wrong.
Its great. Hilarious. Very well done.

Some of you seem pissed it isn't exactly what you want.
And that sucks for you.

Sure the show works blue, if you will.
But this is Richard Pryor blue.....with something to say.
Its not Andrew Dice Clay blue....naughty for naughty's sake.

reply

This show should suck! It should be formulaic. It should be cornball. It should feature unrealistic dialogue that most real human beings would ever utter. Basically I thought it'd be like both lame Barbershop movies. But this show is infinitely better than both of them. It's not perfect, mind you, but it's funny. It's got an attractive cast. And lo and behold, they talk the way people actually talk. Let's hope it stays this way.

reply

#1 Everybody DOES NOT TALK LIKE THAT...I would surmise that there is a lower percentile of people who actually talk like this than those that don't.

#2 The cast is not that attractive and really has little bearing on whether the show is good or not....or on whether it will last (POINT IN CASE: The last Taye Diggs venture - hey but wait - maybe they should switch to HBO, start cussin' and show even more sex)

#3 They should have just done a series based around a Barbershop and not have based it in any way off of the characters from the movies because this show is like a whole different world....and it sucks!

But since you like it - it just may stand a chance.

I enjoy the show. It definitely reminds me of Arrested Development which is a good thing. I too thought the Barbershop movies were sorta lame. I supported them however because I looooooove Ice Cube. The fact that the show is on Showtime should have clued people in to the fact that it was not going to be a family show. All shows that I have seen on Showtime have had adult material. It's also aired after 10pm. Heck even the first episode of Soul Food eluded to Bird giving Lem head. If you like it don't watch. I'll continue tuning in.

I am little late postin ghere because, well, I ahve had nothing to say. But since I have watch each episode in its original airing and in rerun, I can honestly say that it brilliant. The scripts alone are intelligent and well thought out, and, as someone said, very similar to arrested development. They do infact make alot of socail comeentary, it's just not a plain sight as that crap in the movies, which I didn't think were that brilliant and I only watched because of the actors involved.

I love how they use the most ridiculous premises to get their points acrss. Like the store named *beep* owned by Koreans. That's brilliant, and obviously a satire of just how companies feed on demographics. Or how about when Ramadal hid out from the police at the Republican headquarters of CHicago?

I could go on and on, but there is just sooo much. I hope this show not only stays with us for many seasons to come, but that the Academy recognizes its brilliance. This is one show that actually makes you think about the punchlines as well as the socio-political climate of the world we live in.

reply

LOL did chief wiggum really say that? that's cute.

Like I said before, I dont hate the show I just don't love it. The first Barbershop was great and the conversations they have in the movie are very realistic. Yes it's a movie so you will find some Hollywood in there, but with that given, I could easily liken those conversations to the many I ear in black barbershops all the time. I know that film and television are two different mediums and that some changes are neccessary, I just don't feel that the changes should be sooooooooo drastic. I mean Dinka could have at least kept the same name and stayed fat, thats why people liked him to begin with! But, I'm not here to bitch or tear anybody (or this show) down like some people on this board. I was just a little disappointed.

reply

Dinka became Yinka because Dinka was a made up name while Yinka is a real Nigerian name. Let's face it, a film derived TV series is not going to be identical to the film. It shouldn't be. The film is where you get the premise for the television show. MASH was a much stronger TV show than the movie, and the show Alice was a comedy while the film was a straight up drama.

The show used the premise of Barbershop to examine and address a number of serious issues in a humorous way. The *beep* episode threw some folks off, but there IS a shop with that name (and others with similar names), and shops like that always start that conversation about what it means to have a word like that become "mainstream". And there were many other topics that were covered on the show that ARE a part of that general conversation you hear in a barbershop. The last time I got a haircut the conversation went from a shooting over Kool Aid (I just exposed where I live), state government vs city government, sports betting, education reform, and musical artists who can (and can't) act. Anything goes and that's why a setting like that was great. I miss this show!

I have to say that the pilot was awful, but the show drastically improved as it progressed. I loved it by the end of it's (first? only?) run.
