Dull, moronic, lazy, horrible sitcom

I can not BELIEVE the posts saying how stupid HBO was to cancel this mess, or how wonderful the show was!

Jesus H. Christ--this is like the worst Fox sitcom ever, and they are smart enough at Fox to not let something this bad go 13 episodes. I can't imagine what was wrong with HBO to greenlight it at all, let alone give it 13 episodes.

I'm cursing imdb for giving it an 8, and a friend who told me it was good. I wasted a Netflix disk rental to see this and forced myself to watch one tedious episode.

I'm curious as to why you think this?

Personally I think it is brilliant, ahead of its time if anything.

Would you care to elaborate a bit more, in a constructive way (not just saying how crap it is) as to why you think it's so bad?

Now I might be spoiled by Louis CKs current FX show where he really hits his stride. But also, this show seems to treat sexual references like a trigger to make the live audience gasp. Lines that are supposed to be funny fall flatter than an old pancake, but the audience hoots and laughs. What were they on, I wonder?

It's almost like the audience makes the decisions for the final product. Hmmm. That's rarely a good idea when professional writers, actors, and producers are supposed to be making a good product. Anyone with a pulse can sit in a live audience and jeer or cheer when the "Laugh" or "clap" signs are lit up.

Mostly, the writing is weak, the lines not that funny, and the dullness level is very high.

That's how comedy is supposed to work. It's supposed to be funny to the audience. Ever watch a comedian who can't make the audience laugh? Every single significant comedy show in the history of TV until the last decade contained audience laughter. Nothing is a sign of a limited ability to formulate an independent opinion more than the whole "I hate canned laughter" nonsense that is everywhere these days. Sorry, but Lucy, Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends, MASH, All in the Family, etc. all used audience laughter and were superior to "Louie".

Louie compared to Lucky Louie is no comparison. Louie is unfunny, riddled with flaws and seems to be the ultimate hipster "I'm cool because I watch this" show. Lucky Louie was hilarious, had actual plots and characters (unlike Louie) and memorable episodes. There's a reason why despite the insane hype that has seemed to expand indefinitely, the ratings have fallen with every season of the show. I continue to watch "Louie" because I enjoy the stand-up bits, but I have yet to actually laugh at anything in the show that wasn't part of Louie's comedy routine.

Wish I'd seen this thread when it was fresh!

Why don't you stick it, Memyself1234? I am very sarcastic and have a terrific sense of humor. I like Big Bang, Maron. Family Guy, Curb your Enthusiasm, Larry Sanders, and many other shows with with biting humor. Good standup comics, too. My idea of humor is one that is actually funny, and intelligent.

I understood Louie just fine, okay?

All good shows youve mentioned although I am getting sick of Family Guy. I understand the humor and why people like it but its starting to get ridiculous. It was a fresh show in its prime but its getting too worn out. Just MY OPINION. I wouldnt blast anyone else or any network for liking/supporting it.

I dont think Lucky Louie is the best show out there but I like that Louie can show us some good range. We know hes extremely hilarious but Louie is of course darker and shows us there can be some humor in tragedy (humor vs. tragedy). Hes showing us his goofy side and then his dark side (Louie). Its amazing when an actor has good range.

Whats really special about Lucky Louie is its such a unique show is that its a dirty show with a laugh track. Sitcoms arent supposed to be 100% perfect (the writing, acting, production, set, props), so I think Louie CK had that right element. I thought the writing and humor was great.

Watch what you like and thats it. Not a big deal. LOL.
