That's how comedy is supposed to work. It's supposed to be funny to the audience. Ever watch a comedian who can't make the audience laugh? Every single significant comedy show in the history of TV until the last decade contained audience laughter. Nothing is a sign of a limited ability to formulate an independent opinion more than the whole "I hate canned laughter" nonsense that is everywhere these days. Sorry, but Lucy, Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends, MASH, All in the Family, etc. all used audience laughter and were superior to "Louie".
Louie compared to Lucky Louie is no comparison. Louie is unfunny, riddled with flaws and seems to be the ultimate hipster "I'm cool because I watch this" show. Lucky Louie was hilarious, had actual plots and characters (unlike Louie) and memorable episodes. There's a reason why despite the insane hype that has seemed to expand indefinitely, the ratings have fallen with every season of the show. I continue to watch "Louie" because I enjoy the stand-up bits, but I have yet to actually laugh at anything in the show that wasn't part of Louie's comedy routine.
