Ok, In American Zion, Melanie Hawkins is playing Emma Smith instead of Sarah Darling who played her in the first movie. Yet they have Sarah Creditted to A House Divided. Anyone know if this is a mistake or are they really going to reuse an actress that was switched out for a movie. Seems odd to me.
Yes, as far as I know they will use Sarah Darling again in A House Divided to play Emma Smith. It does seem odd, but sometimes actors who agree to play parts in lower budget films (at least lower budget when compared with an all-out Hollywood production) are attempting to make ends meet and are acting in more than one film, play, etc. within the same time frame. Being an actor is a high-making money profession unless you have hit the "big time" like Tom Cruise, Steve Martin, Glenn Close, Halle Berry, etc.
Sarah is a friend of mine. We performed in The Scarlet Pimpernel together at Hale Theater in West Vally. Although I do not know exactly why she did not apear in American Zion, I know that she and her husband apear in many local and out of state productions on stage as well as screen. Sometimes schedules just don't match up, and previous engagments cannot be broken. Sarah and her husband are great people and lots of fun to be around. I look forward to seeing her on screen again.
I thought Sarah Darling did a much better job than the actress in the sequel. Of course, it could have been the fact that I was with a bunch of missionaries and we were watching both movies back to back on P-Day.
When I was a missionary in Japan in 1978-79, "Star Wars" was released in Japan. Our mission president went to see it and then allowed all the missionaries to go see it on their P-day. I went twice while it Japan. Of course that doesn't count the 13 times I went to see it in the States *before* I went to Japan! I also saw "Gone with the Wind" while in Japan on my mission.
Both Sara Darling and Melanie Hawkins are credited to play Emma.....I don't think that IMDB knows who is playing the part for sure, but that is just a guess. I for one, loved Melanie Hawkins as Emma, and would love to have her play the part again.
I had the great fortune of screening two scenes from "A House Divided" last week. One showed the aftermath of the Kirtland Safety Society Anti-Banking Co. problem, and the other showed Joseph Smith teaching Ben about forgiveness in the defiled Kirtland Temple. In the first scene, I caught a glimpse of Emma and it looked like Sarah Darling. I'm not sure, though. It seems funny that they would switch actresses again, but it probably had something to do with both of their schedules. I personally feel that both Sarah and Melanie do a wonderful job, so I don't mind which it actually is.
