Yellow and Pea Soup?

I guess these are deragetory terms for French and Anglo Canadians? What do they mean?

reply

Pea soup was simply a term attributed to the Quebecois because they ate a lot of pea soup. It's no different than calling one a "Pepsi" which in Quebec used to out sell Coke. Similar terms have existed such as calling the British, "Limeys" because their sailors used to bring limes on board ships to prevent scurvy or calling the French, "Frogs" because they ate frog legs.

As for yellow, no idea. Maybe they thought the Anglos were somehow scared?

reply

Yellow is used by everyone to call someone a coward.
