Who was the young girl? Spoilers

The girl with the dark eyes and hair that was first seen in the train at the begining and then the last time at the very end? I assume it implied that Anna had multiple personality disorder from her traumatic childhood and that was one of her other personalities. I love movies that have a ambiguise ending and you have to think about it and make up your own mind. This seems to fit the story the best BUT the children were a little sinister with the boy drawing disturbing shapes around Anna when she was hearing all the voices and the girl pushing the doll that was supposed to be Anna into the tub and trying to drown her. Any ideas?

As you said the movie is open for interpretation so

I did not think that ana had MPD or anything but she was crazy. The little girl we keep seeing was Ana at the age she had been raped - roughly the same age as Flora so in a way I can see the memories coming back to haunt her.

People keep thinking that she had MPD and made up the little girl as the one who had been raped but in a conversation with Mrs Grose, she told her about being raped as a child so really she did have memories of it so the MPD theory really does not fit there.

I just saw it as we were seeing the little girl because Ana was haunted by her own past

The book and the original film adaptation have far more ambiguous endings than this movie IMO. In this the way it was acted out was that the nanny was crazy, she was scaring the kids away from her with talk about ghosts. That was why the children had drawn pictures of her with the word monster beside it. At first they seemed to like her but as she got wrapped up in saving them from the ghosts she became more and more scary to them.

I just saw the scene where Flora was giving her doll a bath as just that. The only reason it seemed sinister was that it was edited to look that way.
