Hated her bathrobe...

Was it really nessesary for the bathrobe to be like that, or to be worn like that on her...? It was totally pointless considering the plot.

very weird style.

I agree, plus it was ugly.

reply

Yes, it did seem kind of strange, but I think that her standing like that in front of the children was kind of an allusion to the somewhat already disturbed relationship she had with the children. If she really was molesting the children, then she would want them to feel some sort of attraction to her and see her naked, but then again, who am I?

reply

all i can say about it is, if i were a boy, and leelee sobieski were my nanny, and she wore that bathrobe...i'd absolutely love it. :-P

I thought that the exposure was gratuituous. But, I really liked the robe itself, I would like to have one. I would not look as good in it as she does, but my husband needs glasses, so he wouldn't notice!!

Try Jesus. If you don't like Him, the devil will always take you back.

reply

ya my wife complained bout it the whole time

This is what happens when you *beep* a stranger in the ass!

reply

I didn't care about the exposure, but the material gave me the creeps (I must have known someone with one - wait! It was a bedspread, and the flower things were really annoying and not soft or comforting).

BLEAH! I hated it, too!

reply

Actually, I quite liked it. ;-)

reply

Yes I absolutley hated that bath robe, and was, strangely, incredibly jealous of it too. Really was there any need for her to be wearing the thing at all? I ask.

reply

I thought it was absolutely integral to the plot, utterly and completely necessary.

No offense intended to any above poster, but it is quite obvious that the vast majority are female.

reply

What does that mean? The vast majority are females... that what? Are you saying the vast majority of people that dislike the robe are female? Or does this vast majority of females think it was integral to the plot? You can't offend me if you don't tell me what the vast majority (that are females) do, or say, or think, or... whatever.

reply

My mistake. I was quite unclear. Yes, I assumed the vast majority are female due to their dislike of the robe.

reply

Ah, I see. Well, I was mostly joking in my original remark, as I am a Leelee fan and her walking around in skimpy clothing is a welcome addition to any film. However, I do think it was important, because it sets this kind of surreal tone and establishes her as being not-quite-right. A good example would be the usage of nudity in The War Zone by Tim Roth. In that film, you have a sexually abused young woman/girl occasionally exposing herself to her younger brother, and it clearly indicates the dysfunctional nature of this family... something is very wrong in this household. I believe the director of In a Dark Place used the robe to achieve a similar purpose, and to that end he succeeded quite well. James' novel hinges on elements such as these; things are off, something is amiss in The Turn of the Screw.

That was a much more thoughtful reply than I could've ever imagined. Very well done. And you make a very solid point. At first I thought it was thrown in there simply for self-glorification, but you have swayed me. Great post.

reply

Well... gee... thanks. ;-) It's always nice when someone has something kind to say in the IMDB forums. It is much appreciated.

I liked it but I agree she would have looked even better without it

reply

I hated the bathrobe and not because it was revealing, just because of it's pure ugliness. Ew.

I loved the unnecessary exposure! Leelee has a stunning body and speaking for the guys the more i saw of it the better.

reply

I thought that the costumer could have chosen something more elegant and less sack like. Sure it was open and we could almost see her tits. but seriously? Is that all it takes nowadays for someone to look sexy.

Plus was it just me or did it make her look huge from the waist down?

I didn't mind it, but I definitely liked it more when she wasn't wearing anything.

My body's a cage, it's been used and abused...and I...LIKE IT!!
