The extended European cut was better
I rented the shortened version from my local store, and fell in love with this film. Then, I bought the extended cut and was over the moon! All the little gaps were fleshed out, like when Mrs. Bolton sees Parkin watching the house with such longing. Seeing her connect the dots - the acting was so subtle and I can't believe that scene was left out of the shorter version. Others scenes too. Parkin had more dialogue that warmed up his character overall. This was a much better film for me.
After that, I bought the book, "John Thomas and Lady Jane". Now, I can say without a doubt that Ferran successfully conveyed the spirit of the book. So beautiful. This is one of my favorite books now. I found it much more believable and romantic than the final "Lady Chatterley's Lover". And Parkin was PERFECTLY cast.
