Unclear Ending

I was not certain of the ending in this film. She says she will get him a farm and if or when she can no longer bare Clifford she will come to him.

Fist off what if Clifford turns out to be ok.

If she felt she could stay with her husband then why does she bfeel down the road she will change her mind. In other words why not leave him at that moment.

Since the child will be in her husbands name he could keep the child.

Is she giving her child over to Clifford in name only so he will have a good life.

Your comment is on the mark. I am curious on why there is not much in these threads on Clifford's and her relationship. I also don't remember much dialog in the film on them, can you or anyone else elaborate from the book on there dynamics.

I read the novel years ago too, and I believe her sister and husband both knew about her affair at the end of the novel. In fact she tells Clifford her lover is the dad of her baby and she leaves him. The ending of this film had me confused too, it just leaves you hanging.
