Confused

I don't get how Diego and Luis are related. I thought they were brothers, but then they said they were cousins, and they both call Daniela Romo mom. Can someone please explain it to me. I am so confused. The novela just started here, so please no spoilers.

I'm in the US, so it just started here also. I've had an unusually hard time following their speech in this novela, but think I can answer your question to some extent.

Diego and Luis are cousins. Isabel is suposedly Diego's mother and Daniela Romo is suposedly Luis' mom. It sounds as if Isabel's son was destined to be a "conde" (I guess this means "Count" - as in Dracula). It seems Daniela switched her son with Isabel's so he would be privileged. Diego is really Daniela's son and Luis is the actual "conde". Diego and Daniela are trying to get Luis killed, I guess so he'll never catch on to the truth.
They have doctors for this sort of thing!

You are confuse in this: Diego and Luis were switched by Juana (Daniela Romo) but, Isabel is not suposedly Diego's mother, as you write before, she is sister in law of Juana(Juana got married with her brother), but she is single and without any son. In fact in one chapter, she kind of made us imply that she was interested (in a romantic way) in the former count of Gevara (this is the real father of Luis, and the brother of Juana).

i started to watch this novela since it satarted in mexico, so i'll try not to spoile you...that's if any one wants any spoilers :D.
Any how, this is how the story goes (w/out spoilers):

Juana and the former Count of Guevara where siblings.

The Count(Carlos, I believe that's his name) married Isabel. They had their son, who they babtised Diego.
Juana married a Mr.Manriques (whose name has not been mentioned), and had her own baby boy, babtised as Luis.
Now, maybe out of spike, or maybe because Juana didn't like the idea of her son not being a Conde, she switched the new borns. Diego became Luis, and Luis became Diego. She did this after La Chalana (one of the Guevara's estates) was burned. Later on you'll find out why this event is soooo important (have you noticed Luis' obsession with fire??).

So Luis and Diego are actually cousins. Juana is Luis's aunt, and Diego's real mother. Diego is simply an imposter thanks to his mother.

And about Juana being intrested in her brother as a man, seems to have some truth.

<<And about Juana being intrested in her brother as a man, seems to have some truth.>>

Am I losing it, or is incest becoming the new hot topic these days? Considering LA MADRASTRA in view of that comment about Juana and her feelings for her brother.... but wait; she's such a cold-blooded perra that I doubt she is capable of any real feelings at this point.

Anyway, nothing new here. If we buy into the idea of personality being genetic, we can already surmise that Luis is the son of Isabella and Diego the son of Juana. Now that Luis has just referenced his resemblance to his "uncle" (his natural father, of course), it's only a little more time before he finds out about the switch.

Luis' obsession with fire is not yet evident; as of today we're only up to episode 19 or so.

I don't think Juana was interested in her brother. The one interested in the old Conde was Isabel, which is the sister-in-law of Juana.

reply

yes, Isabel was attracted to the old Conde, hence she gets along so well with Luis. she kinda reminds me of an old aunt of mine though.
but you'll later on learn more about Juana.

Did someone (diego) get some lady pregnant? Who is she and is she married? please help! I don't speak very good Spanish, but the show is fun to watch, even though following proves a problem. And what's the name of the African woman on the show?

reply

If I understand right Diego got Esperanza pregnant. She is the wife of Luis which is his cousin.

reply

you got it right, HBSWomack1. as for the african woman(esperanza's maid), her name is mirtha.

reply

well, at least you're trying to understand the novela. congrats on that! well, the african woman's name is mirtha.

reply

Thanks. I am trying!

reply

ok just to get all of these versions straight here goes: this is how i know it is

Isabel is nobody mother she is juanas sister in law, juanas's real son is diego and luis is the real conde she just swithched them and that's pretty much it. she wanted her son(diego) to have everything. so ya

reply

Juana was married with Leopoldo Manrique, they had a son named Luis. Juana was too sister of Carlos Arellano, the Count; he and his wife, Aurora (another word for ALBORADA), had another son, named Diego. After Carlos and Aurora died, Juana took her son and nephew and switched their identities, so now her son became Diego, officially her nephew and heir of Guevara, and her brother's son became Luis, officially 'her' son. Isabel was Leopoldo sister and had no children by her own.

I know is confusing, but make sense if you think about it ;)
