Don't fret over not getting the end. Its not really an ending you need to "get" persay. Its inconclusive and arbitrary, to an extent, where the last segment ends, or indeed any of them. They are more like captions than complete narratives unto themselves. The two lovers in 2005 continue to drift with their confusion and detachment long after the final frame. You should consider that in all of his films, there is no conclusion, rather a point at which Hou Hsio Hsien decides to crop the narrative. We get a taste of the world that he's captured and then we have to let it go, but at the same time understand that it doesn't merely stop.
