I noticed those details as well. Shu-Qi's character appears upset (but it seems more proportional to the guilt she must feel after reading the email... not after seeing her friend's body on the pavement). Hou leaves the moment in such a state of ambiguity!! I felt that if the girl had jumped, more sounds of panic or commotion would be heard in the street noise, but it remains at a murmur. Perhaps we will have to find solace in the mystery.
