poor william forsythe...

do you think james woods and robert de niro are sitting around laughing at him or more appropriately saddened that his career has taken such an awful turn?

reply

I don't think James Woods has anything to sit around and laugh about regarding acting careers.

reply

He's still working. He's working all the time. He still has that awesome voice. Check out his IMDB profile. There are tons of actors who are worrying about their next paycheck, he ain't one of them.

reply

I know he's still working. I wasn't serious.

reply

My post was in reply to the first post, not your response.

Who cares? The guy earned a paycheck. Beats what I do all day long for a living. And he got to go to Europe for free. All leading actors in Hollywood have starred in bad films. Warren Beatty, who many consider a top Hollywood icon, has about as many stinkers as any of them (Remember Ishtar, which also snagged Dustin Hoffman in its evil web?) Look at some of the stuff Hollywood great Christopher Walken has done over the years. Balls of Fury, Joe Dirt, Prophecy 3: The Ascent, Blast from the Past, Excess Baggage, All-American Murder, etc. And his performances always carry the day even when the film does not. He also starred in Gigli, along with Al Pacino. Are their careers now in the tank? You work until something else better comes along. I much prefer an actor with work ethic as opposed to some snob who holes-up in his/her mansion for 10 years until someone eventually plans a masterpiece worthy of their thespian talents. Tommy Lee Jones is another Hollywood workaholic who just wants to keep plugging along, even if it ain't always on a future Oscar nominee. These guys, along with WF, are secure enough in their abilities and don't worry about what a few cinematic flops might do to their careers. They know they can act and that they have plenty on their resume to prove it. Others that shy away from these types of projects might be showing a little vulnerability and may not be as confident that they can survive the occasional bump in the road.

Actors have a job to do, just like the rest of us. If a filmmaker calls and says, hey, I will fly you over to Europe and pay you to have some fun, then why not? Read what WF had to say about how he got this Hammerhead gig. He was sleeping when his agent called. At least it got up from bed and out of the house, and he got a little spending money to boot.

I think you missed the point of the OP. I too had a similar reaction to seeing Forsyhthe in this waste of celluloid. It has nothing to do with "work ethic;" rather, it has to do with feeling bad about an actor's apparent fall from grace. Same thing seemed to happen to James Spader, who was reduced to making films like Alien Hunter. But like Spader, who redeemed himself with Secretary and Boston Legal, William Forsythe has made a comeback and appears in the upcoming Pacino vehicle 88 Minutes.

reply

Forsythe's laughing all the way to the bank, as are so many other established actors who turn up frequently in the Sci-Fi Channel's straight-to-video schlock films. How about John Rhys-Davies, David Keith, Joanna Pacula, Bruce Weitz, Vanessa Angel, Kelly McGillis, to name a few. It's honest work, at least, beats doing loops, and pays the bills.

Remember, too, James Woods was in "Videodrome" and "Cat's Eye", and did many character parts on TV series in the early 70s, so I can imagine he's probably relatively tolerant when discussing other actor's body of work.

reply

He's not just laffing going to the bank, he's eating it, too!

What is the sound an imploding pimp makes?

reply

Personally, I'm quite glad that they keep digging up recognizable actors for these movies. I genuinely enjoy seeing people like Forsythe, or Boxleitner in starring roles again, even if the movies themselves are unapologetic B-fare. Star presence just adds to the charme, I think.

reply

Hahaha yeah, I'm sure De Niro is laughing while looking at his collection of Fockers memorabilia...

I love De Niro (and James Woods as well), but don't fool yourself into thinking they haven't done some utter *beep* in their careers.
