No-I just have a personal passion for the country and all that is Spanish. Although I don't speak the language, I love the culture. I'm also a Viggo fan(bet you knew that), and both togther is a great thing. Also, the expression 'good for Spain' didn't mean that this is a good thing for Spain, although Viggo being there doesn't hurt(LOL). My fingers are crossed.

actually you can have more news by visiting www.viggo-works.com and other well informed Viggo sites such as www.viggochronicles.com/forums

reply

I've already visited both sites , and I do so often. I've posted on the 'History/Volence', "Alatriste', and the 'Killshot' boards. I've enjoyed the info that knaustin and the rest have shared. I've been a fan of VM for quite a while, before LOTR. So naturally, I am thrilled that he is involved in this work. There is a thread here that talks about the director and his wife, and their friendship with Viggo. I used to get a lot of info from the ONERING net, but I've gotten more information just from ready all of the posts here, on the IMDB. Thanks, and I'll be watching for more news, just like everyone else.

Hi
and also through Spanish Newspapers and articles like Gente

I think we can say that IF Viggo is part of TERESA, ot will be a very very very very small part

Here you have an article in Spanish and if you read carefully , you can have the regular cast and you can read the entire article here

Unless Viggo appears in a cameo ,, I dis not read anywhere that he would play in TERESA

So if you really want to see him better go to New York (CUNY) in January! the event is sold out but if you go on Viggo's board maybe some can find tickets , who knows ?

Have a great evening !

Teresa was an incredible woman. She lived in the 1500's in Spain. When she was young she entered a convent to become a nun. At first her life was very difficult because she was sick so often. At one time the doctor had pronounced her dead. She actually laid in a deep coma for several days at her father's house while preparations for her burial were made. Then the night before her funeral her brother who was standing watch over her, fell asleep, knocked over a candle and started a fire. The smoke from the fire awakened her. Teresa continued to be sick off and on for many years. When she was about 40 years old she experienced a conversion of heart and entered into a mystical life in which she experienced raptures as she contemplated in union with God. Many priests told her that these were just temptations from the devil... after all why should Jesus appear to her, a woman. When she was 45, she started a convent on her own in order to reform the order of the Carmelite sisters. She dedicated her life thereafter to this reform - which called for a simpler life of prayer and fasting. At one point, the Spanish Inquisition questioned her, but she stood up to them and responded in such a profound way that no one could doubt her spiritual holiness. One of her "followers" and associate was a young priest by the name of John of the Cross, who likewise was a great mystic and a reformer of the male order of the Carmelites. He became a Saint and a "Doctor" of the Church. Teresa wrote a number of books, the most famous of which was her autobiography, which stands with the classics of Christian spiritual autobiographies like Augustine's Confessions and Thomas Merton's Seven Story Mountain.

Teresa was the first woman to be declared a "Doctor" of the Catholic Church. Three other nuns in more recent times took her name: St. Therese of Lisieux (also a Doctor of the Church), Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and Teresa Benedicta. The last is perhaps the most interesting in relation to Teresa of Avila. Her name originally was Edith Stein who was born and raised in a very devout Jewish family. She studied philosophy and became a brilliant scholar in Germany in the two decades before World War II. When she was 31 she read the autobiography of St Teresa of Avila and decided that this is how she wanted to live the rest of her life as a Catholic Carmelite nun. During WWII, she was captured by the Nazis and was sent to die in a concentration camp as a Jew. The interesting connection here is that it is thought by many scholars that Teresa of Avila also came from a Jewish family that had converted to Catholicism a couple of generations before she was born. Teresa Benedicta was also named a Saint in 1998. All four of these women, these Teresas were strong women who made a profound mark on their cultures and societies like few other women have. All were independent women and true feminists.

She is the patron Saint of Spain.

Thanks, starburst. That's a wonderful and enlightening story. I love history, and it's so interesting to learn that bit about Mother Teresa., I hope that this film is shown worldwide so that more people will know this story. :-)

reply

And, if you understand spanish, I shall recommend you to read her poetry, and also the poetry of San Juan de la Cruz (John of the Cross). Both are wonderful.

No Vig-Staying home with Henry!

reply

Yeah, I heard that too. Viggo recently turned down the role to spend more time with his son, Henry.

ALBATROSS!

Thank you! That was very well written and informative! It is fascinating. Can you tell me, or do you know if Viggo Mortensen is supposed to be getting the part of John of the Cross? Or is it someone else he would play?

I think Paz Vega will be wonderful in this role! I look forward to seeing this movie and I would like to do more reading on Teresa! Thanks!

Well,
I guess the date they have listed to start filming is close enough to what I had heard! I think it is possible that Vig was trying to avoid the previous media and fan frenzies he's encountered in Spain. Rumor on the Viggo IMDb pages states the same...that he's back on board! I guess we won't know for sure for some time! Perhaps the end of the mo. announcement about Viggo that is so secretive is about Teresa! Speculation continues....

reply

Viggo himself said he was out of both Teresa and Killshot. I'll take his word over rumors, if it's all the same to anyone else.

reply

The rumour on the Viggo board started as a result of a Spanish article posted on Viggo Works. There is still only that one article that says he's in whereas he specifically and categorically stated, on more than one occasion, whilst in Denmark and Spain during late October that he was not taking part. Filming starts on 28th November but not in Spain.

reply

Thanks for the info. Could you keep us updated as you hear more? I also heard he's IN and that his part is small enough that he could start late, or do some scenes and leave for other commitments like upcoming art events and so on, so ...it's anyone's guess! ???

reply

V-W have put on the Teresa thread that their info was incorrect and that Viggo is definitely not in. However a blog entry on Friday said that someone had received an e-mail to say Viggo is in Lisbon. But, someone else claims to have seen him on Saturday in the US in a food store. He's somewhere, but Lord knows where.

The man travels a lot. Hard to pin him down, but he is always full of surprises!
I guess only time will tell!
