Sounds OK at best. I suppose that Second in Command is not the same movie as the roumored The Fixer because I had heard that The Fixer was suppose to be a realistic action movie similar to Black Hawk Down. Apparently Simon Fellows did a great job on Wesley Snipes latest movie, 7 Seconds so maybe Second in Command will be a good movie too. Let's hope JCVD doesn't end up like Seagal whose movies seem to keep geting cheesier and cheesier....

The plot is almost identical to that of Lundgren's Defender. Defender is actually pretty good too, Lundgren's best and in the DTV world a gem is a rarity, hence I feel it would be a big feat for Second in Command to be better than The Defender. It is embarrsing enough that VD, the supposed king of DTV (with Fatboy Seagal closest rival) that he comes out with a near identical idea to a pretender to the throne. Second in Command is even filming at the same place as Defender in Romania. I think Lundgren's work as a director looks promising and his upcoming films could be good. Van Damme and Seagal are slipping and if not careful will let Lundgren slip ahead of them. Dolph's direct Action, an entertianing and old school acitoner is out on DVD in america tomorrow and I feel it could get good numbers (his last film Detention opened in 33rd position in rentals while WOD opened 27th I believe). There's not much between them. Van Damme I like and feel Kumite was a good possiblity now gone. Seagal is just plain out of there. I am a Lundgren fan though so it's good to see him now doing well. Direct Aciton is good fun, better than all Seagal's recent efforts, while Defender is better than Seagal and Van Dammes recent films, it is a good one to look out for for aciton fans. A lot of action in it and very polished, more so than WOD and Into The Sun, which were much bigger budget. The titans need to watch their complacency!

I don't think it's their fault, it's just that they keep getting BAD scripts and the people who end up making the movie, just don't care that much about how it ends up.

Just look at Sin City that movie had a budget of 45 million $ in 2005 and came out GREAT, while movies like Total Recall which is one of the greatest action movies ever had a budget of 65 million in 1990!!!

Just goes to show that if you plan properly and spend money wisely you cand do a great movie on a small budget. The best example is the recent Attack on precinct 13 with Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne which had a budget of 20 million $, just like JCVD's recent movies...

These people need to get a good director, a down-to-earth script, a really good editor and good composer and then they'll have a good movie instead crap like Seagal's Out for a Kill...

20 million is an enourmous budget if you plan it's use properly. In my country, Romania, war movies of a HUGE scale, and I mean HUGE are made for pennies compared to that budget. Our biggest movie, Mihai Viteazul which is HUGE,comparable in scale to movies like the recent King Arthur and older movies like Spartacus had a budget of around 600.000 $ in 1970... Movies of similar scale made in other countries had three times the budget in those days.

What I'm trying to say is that if they would just find a good project and do it properly, they could make a great action movie on a 20 million $ budget...

Seems that JCVD wants to do good movies, so does Lundgren, while Seagal seems to keep sinking lower and lower...just look a the pointless Submerged, too bad since Into the Sun had shown a lot of promise...

Let's wait for the Wesley Snipes movie, 7 seconds to come out on DVD and then we'll have an idea of how good Second in Command will be. Simon Fellows has directed 7 Seconds and is directing Second in Command . People say he did a good job on 7 Seconds, let's wait and see...

i saw the trailer for 7 seconds and it doesnt look bad but there are parts of it that are poor, theres a part where snipes is driving a car and the outside is a greenscreen and you can easily tell but how poor the picture is and that its fake, but i guess since this movie is DTV then second in command will probably go DTV too but who knows cause snipes career is slipping and the blade series was pretty much all he had left but since van dammes movies are getting better and better this could go to theaters but we'll have to wait and see

Look, in my opinion, the plot for Second in Command while it does not sound original or make the movie seem different from other movies of the same quality, there is something which may influence the quality of the final movie. THE WAY IN WHICH THE MOVIE IS FILMED. It can be filmed/directed as either the classic gung-ho action movie, OR it may take another route and it could be done in a realistc manner. How about some stealth action like in Splinter Cell (for the gamers out there)...? If it goes for realism and suspense instead of all-out shooting it could be something pretty cool.

It may even choose to go towards the classic 80's action movie (the gung-ho, all-out action movie) and still turn out to be great. It all lies in the hands of the makers and their ability to make this movie and plot work.

IF one looks JUST at the synopsis for Black Hawk Down without knowing anything about the movie or the people making it, one might even assume that Black Hawk Down was some kind of Rambo III style movie...

Hope springs eternal...

By the way, the producers of this movie have apparently worked on:
51st State (with George Carlyle and Samuel L. Jackson) ; Monster (the one with Charlize Theron) ; Danny the Dog (Unleashed)(with Jet Li, Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins) and other cool movies.

One of the writers Michael Schiffer has written the for: The Peacemaker (1997) (starring George Clooney, Nicole Kidmand and Marcel Iures) ; The Four Feathers (2002) (starring Heath Ledger - excellent movie) and the WWII based Call of Duty Video Game series. This gives me A LOT of hope for the plot...

Seems there are people involved with this one who have made good movies in the past. Sure, there plenty of bad ones in their resumes but the good ones are REALLY good. So, if the budget is there, this could end up being a damn good movie. Or shoud I say a a Damme good movie :D

All the info comes from imdb...

Oh and the movie has started filming on the 7th of June in Romania, my country.

maybe it just sounds like that but just look at the screenplay and storywriter of second in command and their projects from the past, they´re well known for big and cool projects, not like the amatuers and beginners like they guys who are writing stuff for cheap dolph lundgren c-action movies. second in command will be good, i have a good feeling about this movie.

JCVD ALWAYS TOLD IN HIS interviews THAT HE LIKE TO MAKE FILM OUTSIDE THE US
CAUSE IT SAVES THE BUDGET OF THE MOVIE.
A MOVIE IF MADE WITH THAILAND CREW OR HONG KONG OR ELSE WHERE SAVES A LOT OF MONEY. THATS WHY vAN DAMME MOVIES ARE OF LOW BUDGET BUT THEY GIVE THE LOOK OF HIGH BUDGET.

THE BUSGET OF REPLICANT WAS 6 MILLIONS DOLLARS ONLY AND IT GIVE THE LOOK OF 40 MILLION DOLLARS MOVIE.

reply

actually Replicant had a budget around 18 million and it was filmed in Canada.

reply

replicant had 17 million usd budget. that is right.
