allright ill spoil ya since pope joan is my mist favourite book!

gerold is the guy who takes johanna in, after some scholar tell her very mean dad - who is an abusicve priest- that she needs to be educated. she lives with gerold, his wife, daughters and her brother johannes. gerold and johanna form a very close friendship. gerold is fascinated with that little smart girl with these very fasscinating eyes and johanna has a simple girlcrush on him. after some vikings (i think) kill almost everybody in the city, gerold believes johanna to be dead. she did not die but her brother does so she takes his idenetity and becomes a monch. many years later, when johanna is in rome they meet again. at first gerold does not recognize her but of course after a while he does. they continue their friendship until - of course- they both start having a one night stand. meanwhile johanna has become the new pope, but now pregnant he tries to get her to leave with him and live a happily eveer after life. it never happens. gerold is murdered and joahnna dies during an easter procession while she is giving birth to a stillborn.
