Isn't the reason London is the libel capital of the world because its libel laws are so laughably bizarre . It's not a court of justice - it's a circus . Fugitive Roman Polanski , living in France sued an American magazine , Vanity Fair in a London court in 2005 where he didn't even have to appear in case he got extradited to the USA where he had been found guilty of a sexual assualt . Not only did he not have to appear but he was awarded £50,000 by the court because Vanity Fair alleged on the way to his wife's funeral in 1969 he told a pretty blonde model he could " make her the next Sharon Tate " . Obviously this blatently untruthful piece of charachter assasination ruined poor old Polanski's life . No doubt it's the worst thing he's ever had to endure . I'm sure no one begrudges him a single penny of the 50 grand

Likewise London was the preferred venue of choice for David Irving sueing Deborah Lipstadt who accused him of being a holocuast denier . Why it even went to court I'll never know . Since the 1970s books by Irving have been rubbished by every historian on the planet . He had attended and publically spoken at Neo-Nazi rallies all over the world that far more innocent Germans were killed in allied air bombings than were ever killed in Nazi concentration camps . More Boers died in British captivity during the Boer than Jews and Slavs died in the German concentration camp system he'd claim . The concentration camps didn't even have gas chambers according to Irving . Lipstadt is hurting my feelings calling me all those bad words he claimed . That's why he went to court to clear his name and to prove the Nazis were misunderstood , they weren't bad people he said , because the RAF and American air force have more innocent blood on their hands than the Nazis ever did . Well it's his time and money he's wasting and he lost the case and ended up bankrupt . That's what happens if the rest of the world is right and you're wrong . Still amazing it managed to end up in a legal court though since everyone knew Irving was a holocaust denier

Interesting fact about Nazi Germany - they banned vivisection with Hitler himself being vegeterian and a famous lover of animals . Many of the Nazis hated Goering because he liked to go hunting . Gassing human beings isn't as bad as shooting fluffy mammals . Hey just sounds like a large number of environmentalists doesn't it ?

Didn't Helen Steel and David Morris lose the first case in 1997 ? That's right they appealed didn't they ? And the court still took McDonalds side in 1999 . Oh hold Steel and Morris had a final place of recourse - The European Court Of Human Rights , a place better known for protecting the human rights of people who it's difficult to describe as human . People who are in jail for interferring with kids and who have to poo in a bucket . Thee poor things , or people who can't be deported to other countries even if they're wanted for mass murder because thier " human rights " take precedence over justice . I wonder what good a European Court Of Human Rights might have done for Anne Frank if it'd been around in the 1940s ? What chance would she have had at the hands of the Nazis ? Slim or none - and Slim left town a long time ago . Let's not pretend a bunch of Eurocrats are interested in justice

I do admire Steel and Morris's tenacity however . It must take a lot of courage and intellect appearing in court everyday . David vs Goliath , just like the people in the dock of the Nuremberg war trials , or Slobodan Milosevic at the Hague , or Saddam Hussain at the Iraqi Special Tribunal . You really got to admire people who spend much of their lives stuck in a court room . I wish I had such idealism but instead have wasted my life working or looking for a job or going on holiday or visiting cinemas or a hundred other things most normal rational people would recognise
