Setting in Britian or USA...

In what country would you guys rather see this movie in? United States or England? Please give your opinions...

reply

Without a doubt it would be better set in England, the book would of been set in England. In my opinion when they remade 'Fever Pitch' in America is just ruined it.

reply

Yeah, I live in USA and I think it should DEFINATLEY be set in England. But that might block some american actors (except for JJ, he has to stay American).

reply

I agree with your points but I do have to say that I think that High Fidelity is a briliant film which was "Americanised" brilliantly.

I am from London and cannot think of two British actors that would have done better than John Cusack and Jack Black!

reply

honestly although i think the movie would be just as good in britain, i think its smarter to americanize it. most of the world has no problem watching american movies i dont no too many people who have even seen a single foreign film.

reply

Nonsence, I watch them all the time....but, then again, I'm English

Most Americans will be more predisposed to watch a "foreign" film, if it has American actors. See Bridget Jones's Diary, for example.

If it HAS to be set in the USA though, an alternative would be to have a failed English rock musician.

reply

i dont think it really matters its just business wise it makes more sense for it to be american with some one british playing jj......

reply

Don't you think it is sad, when it just boils down to "good business" and how to make the most money?

The Code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

reply

yeah most definiitely
but u cant forget thats what this is "the movie business"

reply

Well, considering these guys aren't likely making this movie as volunteer work....

reply

I'm an American, and I watched this because of Nick Hornby and Toni Collette (love Toni and About a Boy!). I enjoy "foreign" films.

reply

i LOVED high fidelity with cusak and jack...awesome...but i would love for this to stay just how the book was-set in england..im from the US and hope johnny depp will keep it that way and i almost think he will!

reply

now someones opinion from germany ^^

i just read the book and finished it yesterday and i would prefer the movie to be set in britian.

reply

well the whole british v america mindset was really a big part of the book. you'd be losing a big chunk of it by switching locale. it'd be different anyway, if they were all american with one brit...

london, def.

reply

I REALLY don't want the film to be Americanized. It will lose a lot of its humour, since it's British-based; the dialogue and lingo would change; and I fear the characters will change as well. It's great the way it is.

reply

Id like to see it take place in the UK, it seems integral to the book, but as mentioned before High Fidelity was very brittish and the adaptation moving it the USA was great.

i think it would be an obvious choice to have it be set in london. and just because its set in london doesn't make it a "foreign" film for americans...

reply

That's true, Bridget Jones didn't come off as a forign film.
