This really deserves much better than a 21 on Rotten Tomatoes.

And let me make it clear that I've read the book. They did soften it and do kind of a Hollywood ending, but overall it's pretty faithful to the source material, and I thought the cast was excellent. I'm not saying it was one of the year's best, but come on. Year One is at a 15, and that's probably the worst movie I've seen in the last five years.

I love your perspective!

I agree with you though. I also read the book, and rated this film 6/10. I especially liked that the filmmakers made Martin and Jess much more likable, and I also liked the different relationship between Jess and JJ (which I predicted early in the book, and was surprised to see it didn't pan out).

I can't understand why 'A Long Way Down' is rated so low on Rotten Tomatoes. This movie gives us more than one lesson - Love life because there's no going back once you're dead, share your problems with people so they can help you, you're not alone etc.....

There's a lot more I gained from this movie, but I'd be here all day telling you. I just think the storyline's brilliant because people go through different things that may make them want to end their life. The truth is, they're not alone and I'm so glad they formed a surrogate family to weather the difficulties present. They supported each other. I nearly cried when Jess's dad was looking for her and he was convinced something bad had happened. All the time, she was on the roof, but I felt so bad because of her sister's disappearance.

Suicide is not uncommon. A lot of people should be able to relate to the troubles these characters are going through. A humiliated television star who had an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl, a woman who felt helpless because she felt she couldn't 'save' her disabled son, a young woman who was having boy trouble and dealing with the baggage of her sister's disappearance a couple of years previously, and a man with potential depression.

This movie deserves much more recognition!

Because Rotten Tomatoes is a bunch of big fat nerds who only "fresh" stupid kiddie Marvel superhero comedies!

Imogen Poots ruined it for me. Very annoying.

It's not a good film but 21% is perhaps a little too low.

I thought it was very good. A feel good movie about suicide, I think that's quite an accomplishment! It's terribly underrated. I haven't checked any reviews yet but the critics must be really lousy if they could not see any of its many qualities from the cast to the dialogues to its positive message. At last a movie that had something different and meaningful to say!

I haven't read the book, and I thought this was enjoyable and well acted.

Perhaps those critics were expecting realism? I wouldn't go doing that with a comedy about suicide! I mean, realistically, at least two of the four would be dead at the outset and there'd be no movie. Instead we got this fun, fantastical little feel-good, and it was adorable.

It's hard for me to find much wrong with that. I think it's okay for movies to just be cute and light sometimes, not everything needs to be deep or especially grounded in reality.
