GW vs. WoW v2

btw just cause u play wow doesnt mean that have to play 24/7 u can have a life and everything but ppl that get too addicted are the ones that happens too, just play it when u have spare time

1. WoW is a MMORPG....GW isnt aimed for the its a COOPRPG, theyre both aimed for diffrent kinds of players and genres.

2. both games are fun, Arena Net brings in cash by pumping out games relativly fast. fun but not as detailed as their potentiol shows. Arena Net knows how to make games too, their top dogs were big boys in Blizzard too. Blizzard takes time, good games like warcraft, starcraft and diablo. WoW is the new Everquest, and i dont think they want to pump out expansions as fast as they can crap like EQ did, theyre more focused on quality.

3. GW pvp > WoW PvP(fun tho) GW PVE <<<<<<< WOW PVE

4. leavers in GW are annoying....nuff said, dunt rlly like the leaving setup if u disconect or leave and cant replace some1 on short notice

5. ya like both games a lil more leaning toward WoW though because im a huge MMORPG fan since Asherons Call

To be honest the only reason I don't play WoW is because of the monthly fee however if it was free I would probably choose it over Guild Wars. The main reason is basically because it is an MMORPG whereas Guild Wars isn't, but because GW is free I'm stuck playing that and to be honest it does sort of bore me. I did play WoW for a bit (I shoudln't say, but it was on a private server which isn't as enjoyable as the actual thing) and I think I would have preferred it because of the fact that even when you're out of town you can bump into so many other people. Actually I did bump into an old friend who was also playing on that server. Another reason I preferred WoW was that the control system seemed more responsive. In Guild Wars the characters feel too rigid to control and I feel as if I don't have total control over them whereas in WoW they felt more agile. The thing I don't like too much about WoW is the look of the characters, the fact that they look like cartoon characters etc. If WoW was more Diablo 2 themed I would probably pay the £8 a month to play it.

I've been playing WoW since the release in '04 but quit last month. I picked up guildwars the day it was first released and have decided to drop WoW for Guildwars for several reasons:

1: I don't care what Blizzard advertises or what some players say, but WoW is geared towards hardcore players, period. Especially at endgame, when WoW turns into the virtual treadmill of 40 man raids and honor grinding. It's the same thing over and over. A nonstop grind for raid gear and/or honor rank. That's all endgame is: Raiding and PvP'ing.

2: What I really hate about WoW is that it places a *huge* emphasis on gear. To put it bluntly, success and advancement in WoW depends on how much time you dedicate to playing the game. Skill takes a backseat. It's a very simple game. When you enter a raid or step into the battlegrounds, your success or defeat will mostly be determined by what gear you have equipped. I'd say it's about 70% gear and 30% skill. Don't believe me? Try doing a 40-man raid with everyone wearing green or blue gear. You'll be dead in no time. Or try fighting a player decked out in full tier 2+, epic trinkets and weapons while you're equipped with your greens and blues. Sorry, doesn't matter how much "skill" you have, but you're gonna lose unless the other player is AFK. I know this first hand because I've been in both situations. With my tier 2 mage, I absolutely destroy lesser-geared players, sometimes in only 2 or 3 shots. The only challenge I face in PvP is when fighting equally geared players or I'm outnumbered. I also have a second character who has crappy green and blue gear and gets owned in PvP against people with 40-man epics no matter how much skill I have. Speaking of skill in PvP, it only takes about 1 week of PvP'ing to learn how to properly fight every other class. It's very simple. Player builds are extremely cookie-cutter and similar. It's not diverse at all.

3: Monthly fees suck.

4: This may seem like an over-generalization, but WoW has a large elitist population. Due to the hardcore nature of the game, it attracts a lot of people who are arrogant and condescending towards "casual" players. I rarely see this attitude in guildwars. Go visit the official WoW forum on Blizzard's website. It has more drama than every highschool in the world combined. This attitude is widespread throughout WoW...both ingame AND out of the game.

I like guild wars for all the opposite reasons I've listed above. Success in PvP relies on PURE skill and knowledge of the limitless amount of builds in the game. Plus, PvP lies very heavily on group dynamics. Certain builds interact well with one another so this makes PvP even MORE deeper. There is single dynamics and group dynamics. Players are constantly inventing new builds, so you never know what you're going to see on the battlefield. PvP in Guild wars OWNS. All players have easy access to the same level of armor and weapons. There is no imbalance, unlike in WoW. You don't have to worry about getting destroyed because you are outgeared. There is no such thing as being "outgeared" in this game. Unlike WoW, It's all skill. You don't have to sell your soul and raid for endless hours in one sitting to have access to powerful gear. In Guild wars, everything is readily available to everyone. Winning or losing depends on how well you know your own class, other classes, your build, other builds, knowledge of skills, dynamics and interaction with other players and particular skills, reflexes...whereas in WoW it's all about who spends the most time playing the game and therefore has the most powerful gear.

The level 20 cap in Guild Wars is awesome. This eliminates the grind factor that plagues this genre of games. With the WoW Burning Crusade expansion, the level cap will be raised to 70! Yay, more countless hours of grinding!!! More endgame instances to run! Instead of focusing on the core problems of the game, Blizzard is just extending the endgame with all the same issues at hand.

I will admit that Guild Wars is lacking in PvE. I wish PvE was deeper. However, PvE still has a lot to offer, such as unique green drops, unlocking elite skills etc. What I love in Guild wars PvE is that it's grind-free. You will hit level 20 by just doing missions and quests. It's a PvP based game.

Anyway, I'm glad I cancelled my WoW account. I can play Guild Wars on my own schedule. I don't have to worry about "falling behind" with the rest of my guild if I don't play for a couple weeks. I could sit out from Guild Wars for a couple of weeks and when I come back I'll be right where I left off. In WoW, if you stop playing for an extended time your honor rank will plummet and your fellow guildmembers will have progressed further than you, which leaves you in the dust. The game is designed so you have to keep playing to stay on top. Of course, the design of the game revolves around the monthly fee. It's a virtual hampster wheel, and you're the hampster.

Guild wars is an MMORPG. People just like to say it isn't because they don't like that it's so different from WoW and traditional MMORPG's.

MMORPG = Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Guild wars is a role playing game, it's online, and it's massively multiplayer, with thousands of other players on at the same time.. sorry it's not dumbed down to *beep* like WoW but it's still an MMORPG

Both GW and WoW has it's highs and lows, and they are completely different.

Here is a list of pros and cons of both:

GW:
Better PvE aspect.
More balanced.
More user-friendly.
Doesn't require high-end computer.

Too much spam.
Most PvP is too small.
Too many patches.

WoW:
Better PvP aspect.
More items.
Not much spam.
Fun instances/raids.
More flexibility.

Too hard to level.
Not enough speed buffs.

WoW- WoW is an everyman's game. I havent hit the highest levels of the game or do raids or anything like that. You can always find at least one thing you like in WoW. Theres always one class that can fit you. The professions are mighty fine and balanced. Its player base, although immature, is quite helpful and friendly.

WoW flaws

- Overly addictive. This game will suck the life out of you if you arent careful.
- Like everyone said before, gear depenedant game...
-Immature player base.
- Spam

Guild Wars- Great Pve great Pvp. I love the idea of having one main quest. It however isnt without its flaws.

- The player base claims to be "mature", but the player base is very tough. You can be abandoned at any minute
- Spam.

Who cares though? Star Wars Galaxies pre NGE was the best game ever and you know it.

RIP Star Wars Galaxies :(

okay, i know this is this guy's opinion but...

but there is a difference between opinion and facts..

gw having better pve than wow? no..

Yeah gw's pve may be fun sometimes..but i know for a fact its not anywhere as good as wows...

wow is a mmorpg..thats why it has better pve content..
gw is a corpg = competitive online role playing game

how do you even say that gw's pvp lacks?? yeah its an opinion...

but gw is known for its pvp, its meant for pvp, thats why they have world tournaments all the time...

it involves skill, and *beep* load of teamwork compared to wows..

gw's pvp is like a sport compared to wow's pvp..

but whatever, an opinion is an opinion...i guess

Ive gotta agree... ive played both for a long time, and i recently cancelled my WoW account (re; unemployment) and blizzard seeks to build up on the game, its like a old Buick of something, you can put a bigger engine, better tires, new paint... but its still a *beep* buick, and it'll turn like *beep* and your stuck doing the same stuff you were before with it, guild wars has the uniqueness in that you can change anything about your character on the fly, dont like your build, just put the points somewhere else, soloing kicking your ass... get a henchie or another person.. heres another look

Guild Wars - 70% questing 30% farming..
WoW - 99% farming 1% questing...

if you hit 70 in WoW youre stuck trying to find a group so you can do a high level instance.. and that gets old quick... idiotic people that cant handle their characters and make you think "how did they even HIT 70" untill you realize its grinding... if you try to just grind to 20 on GW you'll get nowhere (full group and you'll get 1-2 xp a kill and later on you NEED a group but hencies usually work fine) and then missions give 500-3k xp per, and rewards that give skills, or attributes, or items... and the way you upgrade armor in GW is one of my favorite aspects... I was in WoW running molten core for months trying to get that ONE piece of my tier 1 set that seemed to never drop, and when it did, i got outbid... guild wars... just get the materials you need (get them from some other drop and turn em in) for a high level armor that'll do anything you need, both games have their problems

Guild Wars - Terrain is difficult to deal with sometimes, in PvE 6 chars vs. 20 mobs isnt always "fun", can take alot of tinkering to find a build you like
and pubescents getting on right after they get stoned and think they are gods gift to the collective consciousness

WoW - Can take a looong ass time to get any decent gear, travelling can take a while depending on where youre trying to go... the classes you NEED to do an instance, dont want to ever DO an instance, alot of the guilds go from groups of players into groups of elitest jackasses... theres more drama in WoW than an episode of 90210 and finally.. pubescents getting on right after they get stoned and think they are gods gift to the collective consciousness

another piece... there are companies that can make bots to play WoW and beat the quests all on their own.. ive yet to hear of that happening in guild wars

gw having better pve than wow? no..
GW PvE: Missions that actually has a story (not just "run this letter to this guy and then kill 4 trolls"), skill captures, boss hunting, etc.

WoW PvE: Spend 3 hours on FISHING, some quest where you have to stand in queue to kill a guy, etc.

WoW sucks, seriously.

The Guild Wars envoirment is better. The worst envoirment is runescape's. Nobody gets along and there is always scamming. So in my opinion 1st place goes to Guild Wars 2nd goes to WoW then 3rd goes to Runescape

the force is strong in me.

Personally, I did both games, but nowadays I only do GW. It's better for me as I've become more of a casual player, doing the occasional farming run in eotn or just hanging out chatting with guidies when I'm not too busy with rl stuff.
