Highly recommended of one of the XX century's most brilliant and evil...

...mind. Here we go from Goebbels' childhood to his fiery end with his family in the last days of WWII. Without him, Hitler would never have reached the government of Nazi Germany, and unleashed the war. And without him, there would never have been a holocaust on Jews. A student of German literature and philosophy, Dr Joseph Goebbels, graduated with honors from Heidelberg University, but was unable to get a job. Attracted to Hitler and Nazism, he reorganized the Nazi Party in Weimar Berlin, and negotiated with Von Pappen and then German chancellor Paul von Hindenburg, Hitler's entry to the German government, after election partial victory in 1932. As propaganda minister Dr Goebbels put censorships on books [his book burning of 1933 still create shocks 80 years after happening], movies and arts, and he determined what the German public can read and watch. Controlling the news, Dr Goebbels was able to brainwash the entire population to accept the war [ironically he had his doubts but kept it to himself!], and organized open persecution of Jews, starting with the 1938 "Kristalnacht". Even ordered, during the war, to kill Allies' servicemen if necessary, especially aircrew members of the Allies' planes that were shot down. When all was lost, Dr Goebbels had his wife, Magda Goebbels, killed their six children, and then both committed suicide when the Soviet Russians were approaching. Dr Goebbels was really a very articulate, intelligent and gifted person. Knew Mozart and Beethoven's music, which he loved, and had a vast knowledge of world history. But his evilness got the worse of him, and rarely the world has seen another mad "genius" like him, or ever will.
One book I can recommend: "Dr Goebbels" by Heinrich Fraenkel and Roger Manvell. Any academic and public library here in USA carries it.

As a documentary in its purest form, this film was brilliant. Judging from Goebbels comments in his personal diary, after a while, I think even he started to believe his own propaganda.

This is a brilliant piece of work, an absorbing film about an evil man. I have watched it repeatedly, and gave it a 10!
