At no point do I care too much about Captain America

He has in no way the backstory / personality in the movie like Bruce Banner / Thor has in their respective movies.

And I agree about Red Skull: If he's so powerful, why does he prefer guns so much?

I didn't like the way Steven Rogers was personified in this movie either. He severely lacked backstory and depth in this movie. Heck, his love buddy Bucky get more backstory in the sequels than Steve got in this movie.

reply

I must see the movie again, but I'm pretty sure Rogers doesn't make the audience get much of a connection to him.

reply

I'm pretty sure it's you.

reply

Not too sure what you consider a connection. As for me, I thought this was one of the best Super Hero movies ever.

In the kingdom of the blind, you're the village idiot.

So was Iron Man 3 for you.

reply

That's right. I loved Iron Man 3. Because it was the antithesis of the Dark Knight. He succeed entirely due to his own intellect and initiative.

reply

Good for you, I guess. I personally not a fan of movies that use lowbrow fart jokes as a vessel to tell a story.

reply

You mustn't have been paying too much attention.

Sure, we may not know too much about Steve's past, but we're given enough information to root for him. He's a skinny, humble guy, who just wants to fight against those he considers to be "bullies" because that's what he believes. He's willing to take a beat up in order to stands for what he thinks is right. He insisted on signing up for the army, even though they constantly rejected him.

Plus, we do know his parents died in the war. I don't know what else you need to see in the movie in order to root for him. I think if the movie had spent any more time showing "skinny little Steve" people would be complaining about that instead.
