Can't wait to re-watch it. Cap was the most fun I had at the cinema all summer long. In fact this, so far, has been the best movie I have seen all year. All in all, this is one great film that I look forward to buying on DVD. Seeing it in a packed house was like attending a very cool athletic event. Maybe that made the experience even better but I guarantee that this movie generates great word of mouth from even more fans now that it's hitting the home market. This thread is proof of that.

All these boards are the proof. Visit other movie pages and they are all still talking about Captain America. It's almost Christmas and e are still raving about a summer movie. What does that tell you?

The depth of this movie really did surprise me. Even though the high quality of the actors involved seemed to indicate otherwise, I was expecting a lower level movie. I was wrong and I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s truly a stupendous movie regardless of genre.

Director Joe Johnson, the cast, the crew, the FX people and writers should all be proud of this exceptional movie and take a bow. The only remotely negative thing I have to say about this movie is that I want more and I want it now! It’s a good thing I don’t have to wait long to see them all again in Avengers!

reply

Yes, they set the ground for Avengers very nicely....

i dont know about excellent, but it was a very, very fun movie.

The director's last name is Johnston, with a 't'.
I only mention it because I hate when people forget the 't' in my own name.
Have to stick up for my clansmen.

reply

He certainly deserves the respect of spelling his name right.

The people watch this movie, the more the fan base will grow. Most fall in love with it and will want to see more.

I've seen this movie every month since July and I'm still more than pleased myself. Can't let the DVD stray too far from my on deck circle because I could watch this over and over again.

reply

Nice. It’s not just he best comic book movie in years but it’s one of the best movie I have seen this entire year. The action, the characters, effects, and story were superb. Amazing vision.

"It's going to be a fun year to watch these DC Douchebags crash and burn."

Well said.

So much praise and yet so richly deserved. I really enjoyed every minute of this movie. I would've liked to have seen more set up and Steve as a younger man. How he met Bucky, what happened to his mom, how he dealt with being beat up all the time, etc. When you care and want to see more, that's always the sign that they connected with the viewer.

The nanny from Flushing, Fran Drescher, may in fact be the nanny from outer space. That's if you believe the actress' dramatic story about being abducted by aliens -- something she truly believes happened to her.

reply

The critics, fans, non-fans, men, women, young adults and films fans everywhere are all calling this film great at a very high percentage.

reply

I still say Fran Drescher needs to remain a thought in the MCU.

reply

Fran Drescher took it in the fact on camera before she was a "star" - I saw it.

Captain America: The First Avenger is a smart and entertaining comic book movie with sensational special effects and a sympathetic hero. What more could anyone want?

reply

Besides being a tremendously smart and even emotional film, it’s also refreshing to see a lead hero be just that… a hero. Steve is no morbid vigalante or narcissitic self absorbed anti-hero. He’s the real deal. His tough life hasn't made him bitter or jaded. In fact, it’s done just the opposite. He’s needed to develop character because his body didn’t develop. This is the key to Cap both in the books and in the film. Heart and character trump the physical elements and are what truly makes the character itself special. Even after he's given the great gift of being a “super soldier,” he still continues to do the right thing. It’s not to prove anything to anyone other than himself because he has a high moral code. I love the fact that they choose his character for the experiment because he wouldn’t take advantage of the gift. That’s smart writing. Cap's first assignment from the U.S. government is to be the centerpiece in a traveling USO show, building morale and raising money for the war effort. Eventually, he finds he’s wasting his new abilities and NEEDS to break away on his own to fight the Nazi menace. This brings him to conflict with the awesomely diabolical Red Skull. The Skull is one of Marvel’s best crazed villains and they captured that perfectly. Here, the Red Skull was a guinea pig for a similar Nazi super soldier experiment that went very wrong. These clashes and confrontations are everything they should be and more. Shades of gray are great in film (and there are those tones present here) but sometimes it’s good to have character of pure heart, pure integrity and true morality take it to what history and everyone knows was pure evil. It’s refreshing to sit back and root for the ultimate good to take it to the ultimate bad guys.

Exactly what I've been saying. No anti-hero here, Cap is all hero yet has the angst that should make him an anti-hero at best. That means he rises above what guys like Bruce Wayne or Logan do. There's depth but also great resolve. A true "greatest generation" thing.

reply

I just saw Sherlock Holmes 2 and it's as much fun. Still, Sherlock is the anti-hero while Cap is the pure hero.
