Delivers in a BIG Way. Superb Film!

You knew comic book movies couldn’t have peaked in 2003. They just needed until 2011 to show how to perfect the genre. (With a big boost from 2008) This movie really did deliver. Well, let’s see what is has to offer. It delivers tremendous characters, impressive visuals, outstanding story, the right amount of humor, emotional resonance and prodigious acting. What else is there? If someone doesn't like this film, I can’t understand why. Chris Evans really delivers and his Captain America will rank right up there with the best performances of any actor in this genre. All the cast comes through in big, bright ways.

This, so far, has been the best movie I have seen all year. All in all, this is one great film that I look forward to buying on DVD. The best superhero ever? Does it matter? I saw this last night and it was a true event movie. Seeing it in a packed house was like attending a very cool athletic event. Maybe that made the experience even better but I guarantee that this movie generates great word of mouth. Critic, fan and box office numbers already prove that fact.

I love threads like this because it's not cool if someone doesn't like a classic. All it does is expose ignorance and ignorance should never be tolerated or condoned. Most are calling Captain America an instant classic for a reason. If people can't see that then it's time for self evaluation and it's time to realize that maybe your brain isn't firing on all cylinders. That's what the new year is for and why there are things called resolutions. From here on out, know your limitations but observe when people are praising a film it's for a good reason.

You're the most ironically pretentious person I've met in a long time.

The knack to flying lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Most are calling Captain America an instant classic for a reason.

Isn't the fact that this was only ever happening in your imagination a rather substantial hole in your theory? CAPTAIN AMERICA scores a 6.8 on IMDb--lower than any of the recent Marvel films; lower than even the unfortunate IRON MAN 2. And even that substantially overrates the film itself, as IMDb ratings will tend to do. In the real world, you've merely fallen in love with an, at best, aggressively mediocre--and, more realistically, actively awful--film. There's no harm in that, but let's not be pretending as though everyone else is damaged for failing to share in your malady.

I gave Captain America DVDs as Christmas gifts. It was a good idea.

You must REALLY love your friends and family!

I know many movies claim to have something for everyone but this one manages to pull it off while remaining interesting and compelling all the way through. There are spectacular action scenes as well as heartfelt, intense moments. There is humor and fun but it’s a serious, well made film. Not to sound like a poster ad but I can't imagine anyone at any age not enjoying this movie. (the train scene really is almost as much fun as the train scene in Spider-Man 2!)

reply

Wait until you see Avengers. Talk about something for everyone! Holy crap does it deliver. Even more so than this movie. By quite a bit actually and I really like this film.

reply

Even Ichiro said he loves this film.

reply

The action sequences are spectacular and the story-line keeps you riveted from start to finish. The movie grabs you and eventually drops your jaw right to the floor. From there, the story grabs you and it’s one big roller coaster ride to the heart rendering finish. It really does deliver!

reply

why does this board read like the back of a dvd cover?

the movie was painfully average.

reply

Because the film really is that good and the fans really that pleased?

A better question is why are certain douchbags determined to rain on the fans parade? If you didn't like the film, fine. Say so and move on. Crusading against a movie that was this well received across the board is asinine to say the least.

reply

Personally, I know they want to throw down but I won't go on the Nolan or TDKR boards and engage in that stupidity. If you liked Batman Begins or TDK then good for you. I don't need to bad mouth those films in order to make Captain America or Thor better movies. I know they are quality films and I know what I like. I don't need to try and elevate anything by annoying fans of other films in this genre.

reply

What about this one...

As good of an adventure film that has been produced this century to date. A very Raiders of The Lost Ark feel.

It's true though.

It's never easy is it???

Avengers is better but it's better than EVERYTHING.

What an outstanding film! I don’t want to make any deep insinuations or start trouble but Captain America’s depth of emotion and character combined with tremendous fun and action means this could very well be the best comic book movie produced this year. For a year that’s this loaded, that’s really saying something. It’s superb in every way. I love the fact that the film sets up fine but it doesn’t dwell in darkness or get bogged down the way a lot of origin films often do. It lays enough groundwork but then advances a kick butt story. There’s no doubt, comic book or not, it’s one of the better action/adventure movies in recent memory.

You CAN judge this book by it's cover! Great film.

It wasn't even the best of its summer; THOR blew it right out of the water on every conceivable level. Your description, in fact, sounds like THOR, rather than CAPTAIN AMERICA, which, in reality, is merely the latest atrocity by a studio-stooge hack who couldn't direct traffic, and has none of the things you describe.

Is there more to say? The sheer joy that this movie provides makes you happy to love movies. You feel blessed. And you want to thank Joe Johnson, or some god of the arts, for bringing this film, these characters to life. You fall back into a state close to childhood, when every new picture you saw was the best there is. You spend two hours smiling. Just smiling...

This movie was excellent and entertaining and deserves all the praise it has gotten.

I've seen this movie many many times already and it holds up every single time. To me that screams adventure classic. The more I see this film on repeat viewings the more I'm certain it should be considered for awards. Yes, it's simply that good and holds up so well under scrutiny.

reply

There is very little doubt in my mind and many others that Captain America is one of the best movies of the entire year no matter the genre. It does adventure and drama and it does it well.
