I love this......BUT...... .....

Rosanna Arquette's 'ubiquitous presence' is very distracting (and highly annoying)

I like her.......

but why is there ANY 'need' for a second camera, whose only purpose is to capture Rosanna filming the person she's talking to?

Honestly, if she just had the modesty to not 'include' herself in every scene, this could have been a sublime docu.....

As it is, everytime she appears, i'm immediately distracted/taken out of the interview at hand.

It was the same thing with 'Searching For Debra Winger' (which again, I liked in spite of Arquette's 'look at me' presence)

'I'm in my tree, I'm talking to the Dixie Chicks and they're making me feel better.'

Lee, that was exactly my take on it. A fairly decent film that could have been great, just like her first one could have been. 95% of the time the "good" camera shot (meaning the shot Roseanna was NOT taking) was the one they used, so for her to pretend to be doing the filming just so she could be in every scene was silly. It was a great project idea and in fact a very interesting movie for the most part, but she should have stayed behind the scenes and from the very first moment it was clear that she intended to star in the film herself. I seriously rolled my eyes at the end credit: "Experienced by: Roseanna Arquette". So pretentious.

Just like "Searching for Debra Winger", Roseanna managed to put together a film about some truly fascinating people who had a lot to say, and still make it all about herself. I'll probably watch her next project but I don't expect her to improve her style. Hopefully she can continue to come up with good enough interviewees to make it worth watching.

yes!

and the thing is, the act of her doing that somehow diminishes the whole.

Even in the moments when we see nothing but the musicians/subjects, we're distracted waiting for the inevitable "framing" shot of Rosanna, digicam in hand and nodding her head

I think maybe you should see it again, for the right reasons. Listen to what people have to say, and shut the *beep* up.

decibel, i think that's their point. they *were* watching it for the right reasons, but were not able to fully absorb & enjoy due to the unecessary & "ubiquitous" (good word, lee) presence of arquette in *every* scene.
when a guy (gay or straight, as gay men love chi-chis as well) complains about an attractive woman w/ big breasts being too inundating in a film, any film, that's speaks volumes. maybe she will take the criticism & apply it in her next project, as has been suggested.

HAH!

I just saw the film for the first time, and I found that extremely annoying too.

I didn't recognize her and I wondered how she had gotten so many people of substance, real icons, to answer her vapid questions.

Now I know. She's probably slept with most of them.
