Wooden acting?

So, I'm trying to watch this in chronological order. Only seen "Cat and Mouse" and "Hidden Enemy" so far. However, it doesn't seem like the actors put much emotion into their voices, especially for Anakin and Obi-Wan. It seems like they just have a monotone hinted with vague annoyance at the world. Has anyone else noticed this? Does it get better in other episodes?

reply

Huh. Well, it seems like roughly a dozen episodes in the acting does improve a bit. In S1E11, Anakin and Obi-Wan's banter seems more natural and less stiff. That, or I'm starting to get used to it.

reply

Probably a bit of both! We are on S1E15 and watching in chronological order as well. I actually really like Obi-wans voice, it sounds close to Ewan McGregor to me. Anakin is the one that sounds the most wooden which is too bad. :/

reply

Finally! Someone responded! 😄

Lol. Anyway, I got to S1E21 before Netflix took it off. Hopefully I can find another way to watch it.

I think it does depend on the episode. Maybe it also depends on how tired/bored the actors are. 😂

reply

Hey, it's still on Netflix, we just watched episode 18! It was just a contract renewal, not an actual cancellation. I'm starting to like Anakin more, especially in episodes with Padme. I'm a sucker for forbidden love and it forces him to show emotion. 💔

reply

Oh, really? Great! I'll have to check that out, lol.

Anakin and Padme are cute together (if you ignore the age gap, which is luckily less noticeable in the show). I also like some of his interactions with Ahsoka, especially when he's telling her how to ignore the rules without getting in trouble, haha. Anything that gets Anakin to show actual emotion is a plus.

reply

Yeah, Ashoka is a great Padawan but boy is she annoying. I do like that she is forcing Anakin to grow up a bit and let's us see a part of the Padawan/master story you don't get in the movies with him.

reply

I meant to ask how far you got. When I saw your post about the end of its Netflix run, I started watching. Since I knew I would never get through six seasons in a couple of days, I used one of the "essential episodes" lists and ended up watching about 20.

It's a fun series and I'm going to try to continue it somehow also.

reply

Huh. I didn't even know there was an "essential episode list". That would probably be useful, haha. Is it episodes essential to the plot or just the highest rated episodes? Or both?

reply

Probably both. Here is the one that guided my CW marathon:

I watched all except the Umbara arc and the Darth Maul episodes. I particularly enjoyed the Order 66 backstory and the Yoda-learns-the-trick-to-Force-immortality arc.

reply

Meh. Wish I had seen that list earlier. I don't think I saw any of those except for the pilot movie, unfortunately. The Nightsisters trilogy seems especially interesting. And some of the ones I did see I could have done without (*cough* Jar Jar episodes *cough*).

reply

Hey, Greenleaf is right: it's back on Netflix! I just checked, and I'm gonna go watch another episode now. 😁

reply

Awesome! Thanks for the info.
