Why do the homeowners....

What is keeping the homeowners from keeping a better watch on their house and using their home safety stuff as soon as they agree to do the show?

Some if not a lot of homeowners just dont seem to have the time to set alarms or use locks. you gotta understand these are the suburbs. Everyone living there believe theres nothing to worry about considering the look of the neighborhood. Even though home invasions are very frequent, many people have the same attitude "It won't happen to me".

"The hardheaded need to feel it, to believe it." Great saying to describe most homeowners.

Yea but it should be on their mind because they know it's going to happen to them. They sign up for the show and agree to have people do this to them.

alot of the people don't have alarms, or jon will break a window or kick in a door. So there is really nothing they can do to solve either one of those problems in 2 days. Also, if you agree to be on the show to fix your security issues, why would you change them before being on the show? why not just change them on your own? I think people actually do lock up more. I remember one show where the owners said they always leave the backdoor unlocked and then when jon came it was locked up. I think that they lock up more, but old habits die hard like leaving keys on the counter or credit cards out, which is the bigger issue.

Also, the producers probably set things up and then wait a long time before actually having them break in. Long enough for some people to forget about things, or start to get lazy, thinking they may have been rejected as participants.

Maybe the producers are like

'Hey, we'll give you a free security makeover, but since we're on a TV show, you have to leave it so that Jon can break in and steal stuff, or else it's not free.'

Maybe. But there's been episodes where Jon got busted by the cops too. As far as the making them let Jon break in, they probably don't need to tell them that. No homeowner is suddenly going to be able to walk around their house and take care of every single security flaw. Jon on the other hand, was/is a burglar, and it's his job to stay on top of the vulnerabilities, he's totally got an upper hand.
