this show really freaks me out....

...mostly because I had someone break into my house when I was younger and Im always worried it will happen again.

I cant believe the intensity the guy has when he breaks in. He really goes at it even breaking peoples things that are irreplacable.

Yes, burglary is a very scary thing. Just try to take the precautions so you won't have to worry to much. Listen to what they say on the show and use that to protect yourself and your house!
As for the intensity, burglars don't care about anything but finding what they want. They couldn't care less how important some things are to the family. They are probably less intesnse on the show than they are in real life!!!

Having been through a breakin a couple years ago, I can say that it is a very scary thing to experience. Between realizing that somebody had been there, wondering if they were still there, seeing police go into your home with guns drawn, having to clean up the mess, and then dealing with it afterwards, it is something nobody should ever have to experience.

You guys ever get your stuff back. The show makes it seem easy to do a break in.

All you need to do is spy for a couple of days.
Get 5 friends to help.
Wear gloves.
Hurry.
Take off.

Bam you get get it done in 10-20 mins. Make sure you bring a few bags and have like a made cleaner sticker on your truck.

Never got anything back. All of my stuff was probably either tossed, pawned, or unable to be traced when found.

It's because it's no rocket science to break into a house, especially with bump keys. I have to big of a conscience to break into someones house and steal their things, but I know people who have and they say it's pretty easy. You really don't need 5 friends though, I would say 3 max.

One thing I think the show needs to focus on more (even though they did elude slightly to it a few times) is what would happen if the teenage daughters came home (or wives) when a thief is already in the house. A fair amount of stranger rapes do occur in that situation - the thief is already there and now has access to a woman. He has already broken the law by being there anyway, so he rapes her. I think if a new season comes up, this needs to be highlighted more - that people are at risk of danger, not just their possessions.

Do you have any stats on that?

I find it kind of hard to believe. I mean, I expect it happens sometimes, but not a fair amount of rapes happen that way or anything.

Rape and breaking and entering are such different crimes.

By "fair amount" I meant it happens enough that it is worth mentioning on the show. I do not have any stats, and even if I did, rape is one of the hardest crimes to find useful stats on. Of the over 100 rape cases I am personally familiar with; almost 25% of them never reported it to the authorities. I do not have the data to back this, but it seems from my studies that of all the rape cases that are reported annually in America, only about 15% of them are strangers. What percentage of those happen during a break in by a thief, I just do not know. But in my studies I have run across it quite often where the break in was initially to steal, not to rape. But during the theft a woman (young or old) came home and the thief went on to subdue and rape them.

The main point of my post was not to try state how often it does or does not happen - but simply that it does in fact happen and personal safety should be kept in mind in addition to the safety of the families possessions.
