Were they everreally thieves?

I mean especially Matt, the guys and actor and writer. All he really mentions on his site is about his writing and that he was just the host on the show. He doesn't seem like the type of guy that could do it ya know. I hate searching for obtuse info on the net, I don;t suppose anyone has a link to their criminal pasts?

Pound for pound, Gargoyles was the best show on TV

reply

I believe you can find more info on the discovery channel website for It takes a theif. From that site it would seem that Jon has the stronger criminal past then Matt. The fact that they are both actors lends to how they even knew about the casting of the show. Former theives wanting to get into tv/film hear about this show...you better believe they'll exploit their criminal pasts to get a gig. As far as him not mentioning his past on his site I'm not shocked. My wife is a teacher and parrents are sorta funny about criminals teaching their kids in schools. They save that for Snoop Dog outside of school.

no... they weren't, at least not on a serious level.... lol. the show is great and gives great tips for those who don't know how to rob houses, and is very informative in learning how to break into a house and cover some of the basics.

Jon has experience and you could tell.... but it was something of the past beofre he joined the military. I doubt more than anything that Matt used to do it, except on maybe a couple of occassions.

reply

I'm not sure where I read it, might have been the Discovery Channel site or Matt's official site, but I think he said that he was pretty much done with all that before he turned 20. Basically most of it was just boredom during his teenage years.

I'm every cliche, but I simply do it best.

Yeah, they were. On Wikipedia, it says that Jon broke into several houses, stole Corvettes from the Miss America Pageant, and even broke into a police station. He saw that his behavior was self-destructive and joined the Coast Guard to turn his life around. Matt was mostly a house burglar and later decided to stop committing crimes, paid his debt to society, and now hosts this show.

Well, uh, they're paid lots of money to make that site and it's generally the most authoriative one out there, so, I believe it.

they could have been legit criminals and now are actors. i mean look at some of the actors now who have criminal pasts. maybe not too many of them severe but still.

i mean look at tim allen. dude got busted spent 2 years in jail and now he is a great actor. one of my favorites.

"Well, uh, they're paid lots of money to make that site and it's generally the most authoriative one out there, so, I believe it."

So does this mean Sinbad was really dead after all? After all they said Sinbad was dead and he begged to differ.

Most people pay lots of $ for their sites and it doesn't mean they are always true. Any schmo could write something on there which is what happened with Sinbad. Someone wrote he was dead, when in fact he was alive and well. It's not generally the most authoritive out there. It's one that shouldn't be used when getting facts.

reply

Who the heck is Sinbad? Forgive my ignorance. Anyway, Wikipedia is a high-quality site. I trust it. Get over it!

Anybody can sign up and write anything they want on Wikipedia just like on here or any other message board or personal website. That's why it says on the front page "Wikipedia the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." So if you want true facts that is definitely not the site to go to.

And just so you know Sinbad is an actor best known from the TV show "A Different World" and the movies "Houseguest" and "Jingle All The Way."

reply

Ah, forget it. This board's not worth the trouble.

When using wikipedia you have to use caution. Yes, there is some reputable stuff on there, but like any medium (yes even books found in the nonfiction section of the library should be scrutinized as a resource as I know of a college student who wrote a paper based on the info he found about the mating habits of mules) you have to look for the sources it references that it uses as sources in order to determine the validity of the info. I would, however, tend to find very reliable info on there, for the most part. Because if something isn't accurate it can be easily scrutinized and corrected by numerous people, so it's drawback is also its strength.

wikipedia is not paid any money to make that site, they take donations to keep the servers running, that is all. it does not generate income

wikipedia is essentially a forum where anyone (including you) can log in and edit the pages at any time with any information

it is a publicly curated forum for collected information that is loosely monitored by a group of volunteers who try to prevent vandalism and encourage cross linking to other websites for verification of information

however, there is no one at wikipedia who is actually an authority or expert on any of the topics and all of the information gathered there is from people just like you visiting the site and writing things on the pages

wikipedia is not an authority on anything, it is a website full of collected opinions and should not be trusted without multiple sources of verification, at most it is a starting point for research topics and not even close to a usable source for news or facts by itself without cross reference verification

reply

It's from the Discovery Channel bios for both of them.

reply

Their profiles on discovery.com say that Jon was a thief, but it says nothing about any criminal past for Matt. That's about what I figured watching the show; Jon was probably a thief and Matt probably was not.

reply

Useally if it's fake info it gets removed from wikipedia from the higher quality members. Useally newly registerd people put fake stuff down. And the fact that Jon stole Miss America's cars have been up there for a while so it's probably true. You can even put a citation needed sign and I am sure someone will find proof.

They were a couple of has breakers
But they turned there lives around
Matt Johnson
Burgler, Intruder
John Douglous Rainy
Burgler, Theif

IT TAKES A THEIF!

It showed Matt breaking a glass window on the start film. Did Matt ever break anything on the show besides his foot...?

reply

he did steal the miss america cars. he said so himself:
"Oh, and I've stolen Corvettes from a Miss America Pageant. I got caught then, too, but only because I got ratted out"

i hope this show comes back for another season!

lol and as for matt breaking anything beside his foot haha no i don't think so.

"if i'm not back in 5 minutes...just wait longer"

reply

Jon reeks of shadiness and shadow, so I believe that he has done it in the past and would do it again if he felt somehow immune. But he's not immune. Still, he gets the rush of robbing people without "getting caught."

reply

Maybe if they dont do another season he will start robbing houses for real this time. Once a robber always a robber.
