Doris Kearns Goodwin
In the closing credits of the series finale it said "Apologies to Doris Kearns Goodwin". Can someone explain why they said that?

shareIt's a recurring joke from the show. Doris Kearns Goodwin is one of Stephen's favorite guests, and she's a very distinguished historian and all around class act. So throughout the series when Stephen would do a joke that was in bad taste he would sometimes then say "With apologies to Doris Kearns Goodwin.."
Having it at the end is kind of like apologizing for the whole series.
She was amongst the singers in the final episode.
Actually, the running gag was a little cooler than that: He typically wasn't apologizing _to_ her for a bad joke... He was apologizing for an implied scurrilous (often kinky(!)) act _done_ with/to her! Very edgy!
