Will he do late show in character?

I have a hard time believing the kind of late night format talk show on CBS will let that happen, I'm really sad that he'll just be another Jimmy Fallen and I like Fallen and what he does is funny but we don't need another one, we need shows like the Colbert Report that is funny and informative for audiences that otherwise wouldn't watch or care about what's happening in this nation.

He has retired that character. A friend and I were talking the other day about this and hoping that he can shake up the Late Show format, but we aren't sure how different CBS would let him make it.

That is my fear: that network late night tv will blanch the Iridescent Colbert by forcing him into the form of your typical late night host.

It would break my spirit to see that happen. I hope Colbert retains his rebellious attitude and bucks the status quo on The Late Show as he did so many times on TCR.

It's funny, but my feeling about him is that his old show character and his new show character are sort of bending toward each other.

His "right-wing" persona became pretty thin shortly after it left the gate, and eventually became even more slyly thin as time went on.

He started this new show with the idea that he'd be putting that "character" to bed. But the fact is that he brought enough of his old writing staff along that his material feels like he's bending the Late Nite format toward his old sensibility. This is particularly notable in the desk pieces. If the desk piece is serious at all, it tends toward leftish political.
