not just Finnish theme - spoiler warning

There have been lots of comments on these posts about the movie showing Finnish grimness of various kinds. But I think it shows a story that is universally true:
An introverted, shy, awkward, inarticulate, socially isolated guy in a job with fairly low status is an easy mark for a glamorous woman who wants to exploit him. He falls for her like a dumb-bell, and either (a) doesn't want to admit what a fool he was or (b) has a continuing chivalrous idea of protecting her. Meanwhile, he has no interest in the less glamorous woman who is obviously more interested in him as a person, until he has totally hit bottom.

I thought the theme, mood, and setting of dingy bleakness was typical not only of Finland, but most urban working-class contexts.

And there you have it. Nice synopsis. I'm looking forward to watching this one later in the week with a Finnish friend of mine. I guess this film is part of a trilogy, and apparently, it is a favorite among Finnish film lovers. I've already seen The Man Without A Past, which I liked very much and have seen twice.
