Connections to early Luis Bunuel movies?

I had to think of it directly when I heared the documentary on scorpions on the radio, shomewhere in the begining of this movie, L'Age d'or also starts with a documentary about scorpions.
Then there is the sharping of the knive and checking on his tumpnail, also a scene in Un chien andalou.
Anyone els noticed this? Is it done on purpose, or just very coincidential?
Are there maybe other connections?
Just currious :)

Perhaps that's a coincidence, perhaps not. Anyway something that IMO Buñuel and Kaurismäki have in common is that both of them loves to satirize the bourgeoisie, the 'american dream' and Hollywood.
Although they have completely different styles. Buñuel was famous because of his surreal imagery while Kaurismäki uses a minimalist touch.
