Serve All My Days Directors Cut

Is fantastic. The vibe, atmosphere, everything is so different, and so perfect. Cawley has a commanding presence I have barely felt in his other performances, and Koenig is just brilliant. It was already a good episode, but I can't say how much more impressive this one is.

Is it just me, or did NV come out of the gate extremely strong, hit its stride early, and have been struggling to touch that plateau ever since? The early actors for Sulu and Chekov, and maybe even Spock, were much better then their later replacements.

My love for STC, coupled with some of the cheesiness of recent NV episodes, and my dislike of Gross in the Captain's role, almost made me forget how much I loved NV all those years ago. Even if they are unpolished, I enjoyed the Pilot and In Harm's Way a lot more then some of the newer offerings. I haven't made it all the way through The Holiest Thing yet. I hate the timeline, and the most interesting parts were the TNG Scotty scenes.
