'She's Punjabi, not Paki'

This statement had no logic. Punjabis are an ethnic group from the Punjab region and Pakistani is a nationality. Most Pakistanis are ethnic Punjabis and there are more Pakistani Punjabis than there are Indian ones.

You know what? ...Either way it doesn't really make a difference.

it does make a difference, its shows the ignorance and stupidity of the director, producer, scriptwriter....

reply

It does to the people who are from the punjabi region.

If it doesn't really make a difference then what was the point in responding?

It definitely does make a difference. Many people (you probably included) are completely unaware that Punjabis are found in Pakistan. It's just like many South Asians are oblivious to the fact that "Bengali" is not synonymous with "Bangladeshi"; ethnic Bengalis are found in India as well and not Bangladeshis are ethnic Bengalis. Quite sad.

I am Punjabi and i am from Pakistan. (there are Punjabi's in India by the way). My point is that regardless of whether or not the character (can't remember her name) was from Pakistan or India, she went through Hell in prison and with her husband. That was my point. That's what I meant when I said that it didn't matter what country or ethnicity she was.

reply

I'm aware of the fact that there are Punjabis in India. The Punjabi woman in the movie was Indian...

This thread wasn't about what the character went through so that was moot.
