Diminished responsibility?

I don't understand how the court found Kiranjit to be suffering from diminished responsibility at the time she killed her husband. She was fully aware of what she was doing so i don't understand how they found her mental function to be impaired. Yeah she was depressed because she was living with an abusive husband but that doesn't mean she has abnormality of the mind. Can anyone explain? Thanks heaps :)
