Just finished seeing 'The Blue Umbrella'. Vishal has once again proved what a fine filmmaker he is......This is surely a worthy follow up to 'Makdee'. A truly enjoyable movie. Vishal has taken a simple, yet immensely enjoyable, Ruskin Bond story and made it magical. While Shreya is good, Pankaj Kapur comes up with another memorable performance. Wish more film makers would utilize this powerhouse of a performer. Vishal, you've raised the bar for the so called 'Children's films' very high, here's wishing you more power so that we get to see more of such cinema.

It's nice, but an obvious crib from "The Red Balloon" of decades earlier. The umbrella is indeed special, but not nearly as magical as that balloon. And the songs in TBU are not very good. Also, the English translation I saw on IFC was truly awful. "The umbrella is immature"? Could they get more literal and less poetic than that? Still, the little girl in TBU does an especially wonderful job. It's nice, but not a masterpiece.

Comparing Red Balloon with this is like comparing Orange with apple.
Different movies, different stories, different morals and different texture.
