Film festival movie!

(1). Such movies, it seems are tailor made for film festivals, specially internationals ones!

(2). Primarily this movie is meant to be made for children. I don't think children anywhere on this earth can tolerate such a slow film. Adults might find this movie a little too preachy or childlike so this kinds of films are most suitable for international film festivals to fill in the gaps of the schedule!

(3). The movie is made with dedication but it fails to maintain tempo and particularly the end is ambiguous. Girl's heart cries for the thief and she gives the umbrella back to him, so? That person doesn't want the umbrella back, he yearns for the acceptance of the village population which he has lost, not the umbrella. It's nonsensical to believe that only because the umbrella is returned back or the girl forgives the repenting thief will lead the population to forgive the thief. It looks as if the writer of the novella - Ruskin Bond and the film director - Vishal Bhardwaj think that the village people will automatically forgive and forget the thief because he's forgiven by the girl. This's half baked logic.
