ok..i dont get it... *spoilers*

I read something on the storyline and I dont understand it.
Can someone tell me what happens in this movie?
I don't care if you ruin the ending :]

reply

they all die in a nuclear blast!

It's a tight drama, lots of emotion and well acted. The plot is not the important part.

I'm not dying yet. I have to kill quite a few men first.

they get divorced, he goes after the guy who killed the wife, then he stands on top of a mountain dressed like Tarzan, and pounds his chest and gives the Tarzan Yell "AAAAAAAAAAAA" "AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAA"

It’s a really good show, you sure you want me to tell you the plot and spoil it? lol Okie..
*****Major spoilers ahead****
Basically there is this guy, Jacob (Mads Mikkelsen) who runs an orphanage in India and they are low on funds .Then there is this offer of 4 Mill if he goes to back to Denmark to meet the donor. When he meets the rich guy, Jorgen, he asks Mads to go to his daughter’s wedding. Then at the wedding, Mads realised that Jorgen’s wife is his ex-girlfriend and Jorgen’s daughter is actually his daughter. Jorgen came up with a deal with Mads that he stay in denmark with his wife and daughter and 2 sons and he will give 12 Million to the orphanage , cos Jorgen is dying ( terminal illness) and wants Mads to take care of his family. U want me to tell you what Mads decided? lol ..
the above poster is right , its not so much about the plot but the emotions and very good acting

cheers!

Yes, please tell the ending. For reasons I won't get into here, I left the film as Jacob called the orphanage to say "I'm not coming back." (Anna had already found Christian with another woman; Jacob, Helene, and Anna have breakfast in Stockholm...).

So then what? Details please!

Thanks

Jacob signs the deal.

Anna finds out that Jørgen is dying (I think it's not made clear who told her) and has a tearjerking father-daughter moment with him.

Jørgen has a big birthday party (Jacob is of course invited) where he gives a speech about how quickly time passes, and it seems he wants to tell all the guests about his illness, but then changes the topic and just talks about upcoming business thingies (a new office in Singapore etc.) to his work colleagues. Later in the evening Jørgen starts feeling exhausted and Helene helps him off the dance floor (but Jacob is the only one to notice this). When going to bed, Jørgen breaks down and sobs to Helene that his condition is only going to get worse and that he doesn't want to die. He finally lets all his frustation with the issue come out.

Then, the next scene (if I remember correctly) takes place in Jørgen's funeral. Jacob is there with Helene and Anna, and also "fathers" the twins.

The movie ends with Jacob visiting the Indian orphanage. There is a lot of construction work going on, so things are getting better. He meets Pramod, who is really happy to see him (I think the missed birthday is not even mentioned). Because Jacob is only staying there for a week, he asks Pramod to came with him to live in Denmark. Pramod, however, wishes to stay in the orphanage and goes out to play football with the other kids. (The end)

Thanks VoiLevi-- Couldn't stay for the very end, but I predicted as much.

Yeah okay...but question:

Do you think Jacob stays or convinces Pramod to come with him. Jacob has this smile on his face that lends to the audience that he won't return to Denmark. (After all, Jorgen is dead and the money was left to Anna who has expressed interest in going to India)?

OR is the audience left to develop their own conclusions about the ending?

<<Yep. I said it.>>

Yeah, I've wondered the same thing, and I've played with both possibilities in my mind. I'm really leaning toward the thought that he returns to Denmark where he is needed by his daughter and Jorgen's children, seeing that Pramod is happy and cared for where he is. Jacob's smile could mean that he has come to peace with that decision. Still, and I almost hate to admit it, part of me feels like that is still just the tiniest bit of a sell out, and Jacob being so not a sell out, wouldn't surprise me if he stayed. So either ending would have worked for me, which one I would have preferred depends on how cynical I'm feeling on that particular day, I guess. Anywho, thought it was a great film, loved it.

Closing time James...last call.

I think that Jacob returns to Denmark and Pramod stays where he is. That last sentence from Pramod was something like: everything is good here .. NOW !! which might mean that if "here" is good, one would not leave his home even if "there" is better. And Jacob knew that very well, in my opinion.

And the fact that he hugged him before going playing outside means he forgave Jacob for not being present at his Birthday and that he can do without him NOW.

reply

I like that.

That last sentence from Pramod was something like: everything is good here .. NOW !!

And I took that "now" to be a confirmation to Jacob that he made the right decision to take the deal, even if it meant that he had to live in Denmark. Things are better "now" because of all the money the orphanage now has. Jacob had a lot of satisfaction from personally interacting with the kids, but knows that he can help them more from Denmark.

At the same time, Pramod's turning him down cements the sacrifice that Jacob made. He has to leave behind all that meant so much to him, in order to best help them.

I'd like to think that Pramod went to Denmark with him. I missed some parts of the movie, but someone above said Anna, Helene & Jacob had breakfast in Stockholm. I thought that was in Copenhagen, right, as Helene said she hates to commute & she used to sell flowers there in Copenhagen pretending to be blind?

Anyway, Jorgen's disease was never revealed, right? Except that it was fatal?

I'd like to think that Pramod went to Denmark with him.

Would be nice but that is not what happened. Jacob asks Pramod to go back to Denmark with him, and Pramod turns him down. He doesn't want to leave the orphanage, because "things are good here now."
