Older, crowded cemeteries often limit the size of graves. There is a cemetery in Brooklyn that restricts the width of graves to 24 inches--Calvary, I seem to recall. This means that a decedent must be displayed in a standard sized casket and then switched to an identical but narrower one while the mourners are out of sight. There must be a lot of people buried sideways in that cemetery. As for tall people, their legs can be bent at the knees in order to shorten them
