One Incongruity ( SPOILER)
When Anna and Jacob meet up outdoors in the park-like setting to continue exploring their relationship, she seems to be enjoying his dark side: teasing him about his indulgences in drinking, cheating, etc.
And yet when her new husband cheats on her, Anna turns to Jacob up for comfort. While part of me understands it and totally appreciates how deeply this bonded them I also think Anna should have expressed some outrage toward him at that point for having cheated on her mother with her mother's friend! Surely now she can empathize with her mother and what she went through and how anguishing it is.
And this would have supplied her with a convenient outlet for all her frustration and anger re: her puerile husband, something that Jacob should have been able to handle well. In fact this could have given him an opportunity to express contrition for his youthful folly & show how far he had evolved emotionally over the past two decades.
