This movie isn't a comedy. There aren't any jokes in this movie whatsoever. The charecters aren't funny either. This movie is God awful. The script is terrible. It was interesting for about 5 minutes, because you're introduced to this fantastic world. After that, it's extremely boring. I'm 45 minutes and I can't watch this anymore. You have to be under 10 years old or have an IQ under 85 to appeciate this.
I'm with you. The best part was the opening film about Zomcon. Which, I was waiting the whole movie for the unmasking of the "great and powerful OZ". Never happened.
This isn't a satire of cliché, this is a clichéd satire. The only character with any consistency is Tim Blake Nelson's. He's great: every one thinks he's a perv, but he actually loves his zombie gal, and he's the perfect person to help Timmy get to Fido. Timmy, his mother & father, Mr. Bottoms, Cindy all are set pieces that are motivated by the movie's plot needs, not by character or theme.
It would have made a great 1/2 hour short film, possibly a Masters of Horror episode.
I didn't like this movie. I thought it was boring, and it had potential to be much better. It ran a little long, and I felt like I was watching the USA network at 3am (A timeslot plagued by cheezy movies)
A great movie with great acting. Love the plot and direction. A must have in my collection. Some movies are not for everyone, but this one works for me. Beautifully lite and shot. Great scenery and soundtrack.
Box Office has nothing to do with a film's entertainment value and/or storyline. That is the dumbest thing I've ever read on IMDB - and I've read a lot of stupid things up here.

-pbelliveau So you appreciate a character that "loves" his zombie slave, in which she has no choice about it. Not only is he hinting of being a sadistic person, but he verifies all suspicion when he indirectly murders people at Zomcom.

omg.... how..... I don't even..... wow.... this movie went way over your head. you totally missed the whole message. and yes, it was pretty damn funny. I was laughing like every 5 minutes. this was as funny as shaun of the dead. but it also was a very touching story about a boy's love for his best friend. it was great on multiple levels. I love this movie.
What does a movie's accessibility have to do with it being or not being "postmodern"? The word "postmodern" is not synonymous with "artsy" or "elitist." Look it up.
This movie was NO WHERE near as funny as Shaun of the Dead. Not even close. Hell, Zombieland was less funny than Shaun of the Dead, and it was still ten times funnier than this movie.
I don't think you realized that comedy isn't all about jokes. The SCENARIO is what's hilarious. It's a satire about society, and it's a sort of parody of movies like "Lassie" etc exemplified especially with the line "What is it boy, is Timmy in trouble?"
The real truth about comedy is that jokes aren't the main focus. I'm a comedy sketch writer, and one of my favorite teachers once told me "If you take away all the jokes in your script, and you've still got a funny sketch, then it's a good script. If you find it rides solely on jokes, then you need to rethink your story altogether." Through the years I've found this to be very true.
I'm sorry this movie went way over your head. It really is a wonderful film.
i first read about this movie years ago in fangoria and i couldnt wait to see it that being said i was definitely not dissapointed. This movie really catered to my sense of humor with its twisted satirical ways. Don't like this movie? "oh well" is all ive got to say. people just have different tastes. I personally think they did a fantastic job
I agree. It's really sad that people have been spoon fed such linear films from the hollywood spew machine that they cannot appreciate a delightfully biting and witty film. I guess there weren't enough 'splosions for the typical slack-jawed crowd.
This movie could've been so much better than what it was. I mean I get the social commentary as it was pretty blatant but, from a story telling perspective, the movie just seemed to drag along. The characters it focused on were sort of dry and the subtle dark humor wasn't enough to carry it in my opinion. It was a really good concept that just fell a little flat for me.
I really really enjoyed this movie. I was privileged enough to have the majority of it filmed in the park next door to me. It was great fun seeing the zombies and all the props and sets. Having seen that, I think they did a fantastic job. I didn't go into it expecting a generic zombie movie, I expected more of a story and I enjoy the modern 60's backdrop. I think some people's expectations were off.
I agree with those who disliked this movie. It is quite shallow and unfunny. The commentary is very, very obvious and they just keep beating that dead horse (pardon the pun) for about 90 min, or how ever the heck long this movie was. All the characters are one dimentional and the dialogue falls flat 99.9% of the time. However, the movie looks great.
"do me a favour, please, post a list of movies you really enjoy so i'll know what NOT to watch. thanks in advance!"
Addison, I concur. This movie is terrible but more terrible is the fact that its rated 7. To think you can rely on collective majority of IMDB. Sheesh.
I would love to have the fans of this movie tell me which other movies they like, so that I can know which movies to not to watch.
Evil Dead (all 3), Shaun of the Dead, Lost Boys, The Prophecy, Pumpkin Head, Tales from the Hood, Tales from the Darkside (the series and movie), Twilight Zone (series and movie), They Live, The Birds, Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Return of the NIght of the Living Dead, Tremors 1 and 4 -- just some more my favorite horror movies. Non horror: Man on Fire, Hot Fuzz, Paul, The Condemned, The Immortals, 300, Wanted, The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly, Fist Full of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, 2 Mules for Sister Sarah, Coogans Bluff, The Jerk, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Harlem Nights, The Golden Child, Lethal Weapon (all 4), Bucket List...... I can go on and on.
This movie is awesome. So you just make sure you never EVER see those movies in my list, you abbreviated name for Richard.
