Could I have survived the pursicusion?

When I watched the mob mercilessly attack the un-violent book printers...
When I saw the mob drive the women and children from their homes...
When I saw Joseph Smith tarred and feathered because of what he believed in...

I asked my self one question.
Would I have been strong enough to stand against such persecution? Could I have been strong when everyone around me hated me because of what I believed in? Could I have picked up all my belongings, and left to a promised land?

I believe in my heart that it would have been an honor. There are many people out there who have no idea about what the early LDS saints went through, just so they could believe in what they knew to be right. You don’t have to be Mormon to see how wrong the persecution of the saints was. And no matter how much some people want to deny it, these persecutions and murders did happen. And it’s something that I will never forget.

I agree and empathize, dracotharpian2002, and add that the persecution of other groups and peoples and individuals seeking religious freedoms throughout the history of the world have been atrocities.

Heavenly Father, the Father of us all, must look down upon all his children with great tenderness and love, as any parent does, and feel deep sadness when they are unkind towards each other and demonstrate their unkindness through hateful, bitter actions.

Truly, all of us are brothers and sisters, sons and daughters of a heavenly Father who perfectly loves us.

I could'nt have said it better myself. Heavenly Father trully loves us, and when we love him, we learn humility and peace. Thank you for you kind words. They have not fallen on deaf ears

Also, what great love God must have for us all to allow us to be persecuted so we can stand up for what we believe in and have the opportunity to be strong. I don't think that Joseph Smith ever regretted his decision to begin a church, even when things were at their hardest.

You hired me. I can't help it if your standards are lax.

Read "Under the Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer for marvelous insight into other LDS persecutions.
