Who the hell cares about Telfair????

The guy has done absolutely nothing in the NBA so far. Why should we be so
interested in him?

The movie has nothing to do with what he has or hasn't done in the NBA. It's about a family that went through an incredibly dramatic experience over 5 years - good people who give a great example of how to be a family. It's a movie about the family, not NBA highlights. It also gives some incredible insight into life in the hood and what really matters in the world, so his NBA stats have nothing to do with it. It's just a great movie about people and life, with some great basketball in there too, by the way. And in high school, where the movie all takes place, he did lead his team to 3 straight NYC championships, which no one (even his cousin Stephon Marbury) ever did before. But it's really more about the family and it's worth watching for that story alone, even if you don't love basketball.

Ever seen Hoop Dreams? Arthur Agee and William Gates never amounted to NBA stars, yet in my opinion, it is one of the best documentaries ever made.

Yep, it was one of the greatest documentaries I have ever seen. It showed how much it took to get out of his town and to the big city. I really like the end where his brother and younger brother get up early in the morning to go out and practice. His older brother says, "This is what we're going to do every morning. You're going to get up, do some drills, practice, eat some breakfest and go to school. If you want to be better than Sebastion you've got to practice harder than him." His little brother is going to be seen in these next couple of years. Good luck to him!

First of all, through the fire isnt about what he was going to or not going to do in the pros. The movie is about a teenage basketball star who has to make decisons not only for himself but also for his entire family. NYC is one of the best basketball cities in america isnt it? Telfair was the first player ever to win three consenctive city titles. NO ONE ELSE HAS DONE THAT. NO ONE. Finnally, this kid has a great attidue towards life and everything else. Hes not the the type of point garud who glared at teammates when they dropped passes but the type of point gaurd who gave them a pat on the ass. Give the guy a break.

I have to say the hype about NYC basketball is much greater than the actual talent. Some of the greatest NY ballers just didn't have the talent at the next level e.g. lenny cooke, charles johnson, omar cook.

And I don't think telfair is going to be a great NBA point guard. Not because he hasn't done much yet, but because he hasn't improved much from his first year to the second. Unless he shows that he can be a great passer or a great shooter, I don't think he's going to last longer than 2 more seasons before he's out of the league. A 5 foot 10 point guard who puts up average numbers is not going to last, not even as a back up.

Best basketball city right now is Indianapolis. It's produced the nation's no. 1 player for three straight years now in Greg Oden, Josh McRoberts, and Eric Gordon, and its pumping out an astonishing number of D1 prospects each year, despite having a population of only about one-fifteenth that of New York's.
