We had him, but money speaks high volumes to a kid

As a fan of Louisville all 25 years of my life, I think he would hae been great alongside of Francisco Garcia, Taquean Dean, Larry O'Bannion and our other players, but he thought otherwise. I've always believed that college before the NBA is better because you recieve more training and learn more aspects of the game. I haven't heard much about Telfair since he was drafted, but I do believe that Rick could have taught him so many things.

Yeah I agree. Go when you're hot and can make the money. It's about how much hype you have built up.

As far as Chris Duhon goes, many of his weaknesses were revealed his senior season but he has surprisingly become a solid player afterall.

How Are they doing this year in both their second years?

Duhon : 8.6 ppg, 5.0 apg, 3.0 rpg in 30 minutes per (3 to 1 Assists to T.O.)
Telfair : 8.9 ppg, 3.6 apg, 1.8 rpg in 24 minutes per (2 to 1 Assists to T.O.)

reply

This is Duhon's 6th season of major organized basketball, Telfair's second.

I'd be shocked if Telfair hasn't far surpassed Duhon in four years.

reply

john t white, hello? At the time that you wrote your blog it was Duhon's second year as well. Telfair and Duhon were drafted the same year.

"He should be beaten every Saturday like a dog"

reply

He would only have played against Darius Washington for one year since Louisville moved to the Big East.

Remember that Memphis/Louisville conference championship game in 2005 when Darius Washington was at the line with no time left in the game shooting 3 free throws and his team down 2?

Oh man, what drama....if only Telfair was on Louisville's team at the time...

reply

Sure you do. He played Pitino like a fiddle and it backfired on his "majesty." Telfair had zero intentions of going to college. If Pitino hadn't wasted his time Rajon Rondo and Chris Lofton would be at UofL and UofL would not be in the NIT. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. In this case Pitino had two birds in hand but wanted that one "special" bird in the bush. As you can see by UofL now playing for 66th place in the NIT this was a very, very bad decision. Almost has bad as taking Ron Mercer instead of Tim Duncan. OOPs I see a pattern here.

Just to let you know, drafting a player isnt strictly the coaces choice, it coems down from the office as well. And Pitino is a great COLLEGE coach. Who gives a *beep* about the NBA. I'd rather watch a game where kids play w/ their hearts and not for their paychecks.

And your telling me that you wouldve drafted McGrady, coming out of a private High School...to play on your NBA team when there was really only 1 player at that time that actually made the jump? (Kevin Garnet) So yeah..dont tell me you wouldve had the balls to take him

One more point...if your gonna bitch at that...Why not go back to the draft where the Packers took G Tony Mandrich over Barry Sanders...

Nuff Said..

maybe he said yes to Pitino because he felt pressure from him. Maybe not directly but indirectly. Rick Pitino did give his brother from Providence a chance when he was coaching the Boston Celtics. they signed him as a free agent. also, he played with the warriors for a very short while. (two seperate 10 day contracts i think)

plus, how can you blame anybody for giving up millions of dollars. until the league puts in an age limit, look for young careers of many ballers to fall apart. of course some will make a difference. meanwhile, enjoy sloppy basketball and lots of one on one play, much like the olympics when the USA tries to show the world something.

like somebody said about his brother,i totally agree with that. your weaknesses are discovered in college that may change pro scouts decisions about you. look at j.j redick. that guy is great. he can put the ball in the hoop just about as good as anybody. a few years ago, nba scouts were drooling over this guy. now i've read quite a few scout reports saying that even though he will get drafted,he might not even be in the top 15 due to some of the flaws he has in his game.

and as for the guy who said basketball is a girls game? well, hockey is pointless and boring, so ha.

- J.J. Reddick plays no defense
- Derrick Coleman in his first 5 years (the ones with the Nets) was no bust. he averaged a double double was All-NBA third team twice and an All-Star once. Olowokandi on the other hand has never avg. a double double for a season and is a fine example of a bust.

what are you talking about, Jermaine O'Neal intelligent? Detroit fight ring a bell? KG and LeBron very lacking skill-wise? Give me a break! Stick to watching movies and leave sport talk to the ones not refreshing the imdb messageboard.

LeBron James-30.7ppg( 2nd in the league) 7.2 rpg 6.6 apg(All-Star MVP)
Kevin Garnet-(8-time All-Star, 2004 league MVP, 6-time All-NBA, 6-time All-Defensive)
Show me Jermaine O'Neal credentials compared to these. Numbers don't lie and hey...don't get so defensive and start using nasty words...you might hurt my feeling and i'll have to send KG and Lebron after ya

Pitino was the GM for the Celtics. If he wanted Duncan he could have gotten it done. Instead he wasted the 6th pick on a career lockeroom cancer in Mercer that never lived up to his hype and is out of the league and then got rid of a future finals MVP because Pitino is a piss poor coach once you realize that he's very one dimensional. The fact that Telfair played him so badly makes it even funnier than me. Pitino is the coach who will pull an offer for a kid in an instant if they mention any other school or coach. yet he didn't with Telfair?

reply

i would say that pitino is a good college coach, but not a good pro one.

call me whatever you want, but anyone who states that LeBron and KG are not talented, lack skills, or arent good players (however you worded it) is not really thinking straight. LeBron is the only player since Jordan to average 25 pts. 7 boards and 7 dimes a game for a season. he is an all around player. if you dont like stats then quit watching sports. as far as KG goes, you and Scottie Pippen are crazy. He is probably the most consistent guy in the league, gets his job done (though should be more aggressive), and the only talent lacking is the teammates around him. otherwise, they would make the playoffs. he is the most efficient player in the league and is underrated. period!!!
led the league in rebounding and double doubles last yr. and again this yr.

what else do you want?
