Telfair Investigation for Possible New Incident.

Looks like more gun play in New York for our young thug.

I know I know.

I was his girlfriends gun and he did not know she put it in his jacket.

Keep trying to explain these thugs.

You are just waisting Your breath.

we'll see...

By the way, have you seen the movie yet?

...that's what I thought.

reply

I saw the cut version on one of the ESPNs when it was first coming out on DVD.

Very boring and forgettable.

I still prefer Hoop Dreams by a mile.

Hoops Dreams is one of my favorite movies.

reply

that's nice. Telfair is pretty much cleared of wrongdoing at this point, by the way.

reply

Please, you can't even begin to compare this to Hoop Dreams. HD was the real thing, this was a cynical ESPN-marketing creation trying to manufacture a hoop dreams type story where none existed. The whole "outta the projects" theme was weak, his brother was making over 300k per year at the time in Greece (something espn neglected to mention--instead portraying him as if he were struggling to survive) and their 1st cousin is NBA star Stephon Marbury who's made countless millions in Salary and endorsements over the years. This was not the destitute never-had-a-chance type family that ESPN tried to depict them as.

reply

I understand your point, but you're mistaken on three counts. First, this was not an ESPN project. It was produced independently and then bought, unchanged, by ESPN. So the story in the film is the one the director wanted to tell, not an ESPN marketing creation.

Secondly, Jamel was not making over 300k playing in Greece. Not anywhere close to that.

Thirdly, Stephon Marbury never gave this family a cent. So they weren't riding high on his millions.

You're right that Sebastian's situation was different than the two kids in Hoop Dreams, but that's largely due to the hype created by his own ability from a young age. Everybody was watching him, so he was ahead of the game in that regard. But without playing the way he did, it never would have happened.

I agree Bassy made the most of his chance by doing well in school was benifited by good structure. More Danny than Jamel to me.

Hoop Dreams was a whole different story. Showing two young talents that had the chance to make it instead of an established player who barring injury was going to make it. That summer in the draft or 4yrs later out of Louisville.

reply

Seems like the Celtics have cut ties with Bassy over the latest gun incident.

Seems like a nice kid, but enough is enough.

This is why the NBA needs to stop drafting these young guys straight out of High School. These neo-phyte players (pseudo-stars) never get a chance to develope and mature into men, players or professionals . The concentration should be on completing Hign school, going to college to gain basic life coping skills. Learn something about life and business on the level of being able to handle their own affairs. They should have to go to the NBADL first before they go to the "PROS". This would still give them an idea as to how the league functions and operates in their lives. The NBA is a business that will and can "treat you right" or "chew you up and spit you out"!

It sure worked out horribly for Garnett, Kobe, J. O'Neal, D. Howard, etc. etc. etc.
