Is he one of the best ball handlers ever out of NYC..

I was just wondering from some people who have seen this kid play..Where does he match up with some of the great point guards out of the NYC?Im from Texas and the basketball crop is starting to come out of the woodworks with the likes of T.J ford(bucks) and Deron Williams(Jazz).I just dont think Telfair matches up with either of them two....

he might the best ball handler ever out NYC. Hes definitely the quickest player out of NYC. Deron Williams is much too slow 2 hang with him.

Tony Parker is the faster player in the NBA, Iverson I believe is the quickest. Telfair is both but not the best of either. Hes handle is great but its hard to prove anyones handle is the best.

the on thing with him is -like his cuz marbury- he is a scorin PG not a true PG. but last year when he got starts at the end he shook luke ridnoir out of his shoes like 5 times in 1 game. but he is fast as hell. when he gets into games the offense tends to stall thats changed as of late. but i think college would have done him good. there is only one player who never really needed college and that is lebron and no not kobe or KG cuz they wernt right away impact guys.

Ever here of a fellow named Amare?
(one injury and how quickly we forget)

NYC points have a history of getting the big hype and not living up to it in the League.
Think Kenny Anderson, Rod Strickland, etc.
Mark Jackson had one of the better careers, despite being slower and chunkier than your average point. Marbury still a work in progress.

And before you all dis Marbury, I'd be interested to know how many relatives and friends Marbury's paycheck indeed covers. Also, I'm not sure how close the Telfairs and Marburys were, but do remember reading that they shared most everything including meals.

Time to kick on the dvd.

Kenny Anderson and, Rod Strickland had good carees for PGs not great but I think Marbury is a very good player just not great and hes not gonna get any better he is what he is. I think Telfair can be a great PG is he get the right coaching Nate might just be that guy.

with out a doubt he is one of the best ball handlers out of nyc.could be the best Guard out of NYC ever. T.J and Deron could be better now but wait until BASSY develops his game more a year or 2 along the line sebastian will be better i think he can be the best point guard in that draft!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rafer Alston aka Skip To My Lou.. he plays for the rockets.. hes the best ballhandler out of nyc imo.. hes a legend in streetball.. i actually played with him a couple times when he played for fresno state and i watched more then a few people get their ankles broke...

but nyc is full of great ballhandlers and to actually say anybody is the best is hard because most of them dont make it to the nba...

god shamgod was from NYC, he also played with jamel thomas at providence, was an incredible ball handler and extremely quick to the basket....i remember when he was entering the draft they said they hadnt seen anyone handle the ball that well since tim hardaway, too bad god couldnt shoot....

look up the '97 friars, their line up was sick, shoulda won the national championship that year....

the best homebred point guard was marbury

Best point gurads out of NYC -
Marbury, Skip and don't forget about Omar Cook. I know he sucked in the league but at St. JOhn's he was a pretty good point guard but his handle is on point.

reply

Marbury, AKA Starbury is a selfish wimp.
I just hope his cousin (Bassy) doesn't follow in his footsteps.
None of them could hang wit AI, on his worst day!

And for the record, Bobby Hurley was tougher than all of them (with the exception of Iverson). Too bad a drunk driver basically ended his career.

THE QUESTION IS, IS SEBASTIAN ONE OF THE BEST BALL HANDLERS EVER. NOT THE BEST POINT GUARD, NOT THE BEST PLAYER, BUT THE BEST BALL HANDLER. MAYBE ONE OF THE TOP ONES, BUT NO WHERE NEAR THE BEST, REMEMBER , WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ONLY BALL HANDLING. I HAVE TO AGREE WITH ONE OF THE PREVIOUS POSTERS. GOD SHAMMGOD WAS THE BEST PURE BALL HANDLER/DRIBBLER I HAVE EVER SEEN OUT OF NYC. OF COURSE THERE WERE BETTER POINT GUARDS/PLAYERS, BUT IN TERMS OF BALL HANDLERS/DRIBBLERS. HE, ALONG WITH KENNY ANDERSON WERE THE BEST IVE EVER SEEN. THOSE TWO COULD DO THINGS WITH THE BALL IVE NEVER SEEN. PEARL WASHINGTON WAS UP THERE TOO. BUT SHAMMGOD, WAS SOMETHING SPECIAL. HIS MOVES WITH THE BALL GIVE ME CHILLS WHEN I THINK BACK TO THE TIMES I SAW HIM IN SUMMER LEAGUE. TELFAIR, MARBURY,ED "BOOGER" SMITH, ALL HAD CRAZY HANDLES, BUT SHAMMHOD WAS JUST CRAZY. THOSE WHO REALLY KNOW HOOPS, WOULD AGREE!

reply

shammgod has a move named after him, i dont think many can say that. i use learned after watching clips of him doing it and it works like 99% of the time. other than that i havent really seen him play. i dont think ive seen someone change direction with the ball as good as telfair.

reply

I think he mathces up just fine with deron i dont know much about tj thou. Telfair is much much quicker than deron for sure and he might be a better ball handler too. Williams does have a much better shot though. Over all theyre porobably about even in my opinion.

reply

I think it's pretty official now that Telfair is a marginal NBA player.
Never developed a shot. His percentages aren't terrible, but even those low numbers are inflated because teams often would play off of him, or double off of him, and give him wide open shots. He's also not a very good finisher and a smallish, weak defender.

So what you are left with is that he is quick, can handle well, and pass okay.
Right now a 3rd string PG.
Might have to work hard to stay in the League longer and be a viable backup point.
