I am an HUGE Alex Rider fan, BUT...

...this is the worst film i have ever seen.

What makes it worse, is the fact that the books are so brilliant.

Where to start?
Alex Rider in the books who is 14 is described as being short for his age - in the film he looks and sounds about 20.
Alex Rider is decribed over and over again as having BROWN eyes, this is supposed to be a distinguishing feature on him - in the film he has bright blue eyes, i mean come on how hard was it to cast a decent Alex that fitted the role?
Mrs Jones has never been discribed as being black in the books.
The story was HUGELY altered, i mean i know its a movie and they have to cut and change things, but geting to MI6 HQ, by riding a photo-booth stall through underground tunnels? The whole SAS training scene?
Smithers the gadget master is described in the books as being HUGELY fat and bald- in the film the best they could muster up is Steven Fry?
Sabina Pleasure in the books is not even supposed to make an entrance until the 3rd book, Skeleton Key - in the film shes in straight away i mean WTF?

The books have a very real-life like, dark James Bond feel to them - the film is like a cheap Disney Spy Kids rip off.

I bought the movie for 2 pounds 50 second hand and i still took it back for a refund.
Awful movie, truly awful awful movie.
If i ever meet Alex Pettyfyer (or what ever the fck it is) i'm gonna slap him.

NATHAN GAMBLE is a little GENIUS and i want him as my little brother.

reply

100% agree. even though i was a kid who would lap up anything related to anything i already liked (the novels in this case) i knew it was pretty bad when i saw it.

john frusciante makes me want to be gay

Most Alex Rider fans agree the movie was a huge letdown.

But I don't think it was Alex Pettyfyer's fault at all.

I agree that it's not the best film in the world and it certainly doesn't do the books credit, but you've yet to make a valid argument against it. So what if a couple of the characters look a bit different? Would you rather have a terrible actor who 'looked' like Alex Rider than someone who can actually act?
I'd also like to point out that Anthony Horowitz wrote the script. He introduced Sabina in this film so that they could still do the horse chase - it's explained in Point Blanc that Alex himself can't ride a horse. They had to use it to substitute the van chase in the book because Pettyfer was too young to drive.

People like you bore me, oh well i'll just get this over with quickly;

you've yet to make a valid argument against it.

If i had just said, 'The film is SH!T' (which it is), you'd be right.
But i didn't did i? I went in to considerable detail explaining myself. What more do you want? :/ Fail 1

So what if a couple of the characters look a bit different?

So going by your logic it wouldn't have mattered if Harry Potter was casted as a black guy and Hermonie had short ginger hair? Thought so... Fail 2

Would you rather have a terrible actor who 'looked' like Alex Rider than someone who can actually act?

So England have NO blonde 13-15 year old teenage actors, who have brown eyes and are short for their age? And hair dye is never used to cast good actors who have the wrong colour hair? Fail 3
And i don't recall Alex Pettyfyer's acting being ground-breaking anyway... Fail 4

Major point. None of this makes up for the smelly pile this film ended up as.
Minor point. In films, roads are normally closed or private land is used therefore eliminating the need to have a driver's license. Fail 5

Have a nice day now

Books and movies are apples and oranges, there both delicious but dont taste the same (Steven King) (doesn't mean they should suck though...)

Coolio, I'll just counter all of your arguments in a pedantic manner as well then:

If i had just said, 'The film is SH!T' (which it is), you'd be right.
But i didn't did i? I went in to considerable detail explaining myself. What more do you want?

You went in to considerable detail explaining that his eyes weren't the right colour, Smithers was meant to be fat and Mrs Jones shouldn't be black. How does that make it a bad film?

So going by your logic it wouldn't have mattered if Harry Potter was casted as a black guy and Hermonie had short ginger hair? Thought so...

Alex's eyes aren't the right colour - well, that hardly matters. Daniel Radcliffe's eyes weren't the right colour but I don't see many people complaining there.
Mrs Jones was never described as being black - but neither did it ever say she was white. they found an actress who could play the role, what difference does skin colour make?
Though I do agree that they could have stuck Steven Fry in a fat suit or something - they really made no effort to make him look anything like Smithers.

And i don't recall Alex Pettyfyer's acting being ground-breaking anyway...

Anthony Horowitz picked Pettyfer himself after seeing him in Tom brown's Schooldays.

In films, roads are normally closed or private land is used therefore eliminating the need to have a driver's license.

Don't look at me, this tidbit was in the trivia section on IMDB, I don't make this stuff up. I guess there were Health & Safety issues or something.

I agree the film was a let down. I love the Alex Rider books and wish that the film was better but...

-Alex is not desribed as small for his age in he books but more like, Alex is 5' 7" tall
-Mrs. Jones is often described as a dark, rather masculine woman and isn't very attractive, though she did not really try to be. She has short black hair, dark beadlike black eyes that are described as could have belonging to either a crow or eagle, and a pale, 'business-like' face- No where does it say she is white either.
-The photo booth was stupid and the story being changed was terrible aswell
- Sabina was added because Alex was 15 when filming so he couldn't drive and later in the books he says he can't ride a horse so thats what they came up with.

The movie could have been better but it wasn't that bad
