Was Vidal an alcoholic?

He drinks alcohol even though it causes him excruciating pain after having sown his cheek back together. Is this an indication of him being an alcoholic who craved alcohol enough to pound it down no matter the pain, or did he do it by accident (forgot that distilled spirits make bloody wounds burn)?

reply

I think he was hoping that the alcohol would lessen the pain and forgot what would happen when it hit that cut. I don't recall any reason to believe that he was an alcoholic.

Strip away the phony tinsel of Hollywood and you find the real tinsel underneath.

reply

Alcohol is a disinfectant, and it would lessen the pain even if it burnt the wound, which is why he had another glass after cringing in pain.

reply

Nonsense. In open wounds, you shouldn't alcohol as it is a vasodilator. You could see at the blood came out immediately. He was a drunk.

reply

He was using the alcohol to help him dull the pain.

Not once in the movie is he shown to be inebriated or stumbling around or passed out. He's not a drunk.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

reply

Well, if he were, that would be the least of his problems.
