LOVED this movie, hate critics

How did this movie get worse reviews than Beowulf? Beowulf was utter garbage and had nothing redeemable about the plot. I Loved MR. MAGORIUM's because it touched upon deep topics, such as death and the need to move on in life and believe in yourself. I hate the critics. They don't get it.

Yeah, I loved this movie as well. The story was interesting and it really speaks to the heart about life in general.

reply

I finished to saw it just some minutes ago and...Wow,what a surprise!

I didn't expect this movie to be so good :)

And...Yes,i cried at the "you know what" scenes T_T

reply

Agreed, both about this one and the ferociously dull Beowulf...

amazing movie.

dvd sales, and rentals will be amazing.

it will prove to stand the test of time.

I work at a Movie Gallery. It seems no matter the quality, all rentals go fast. You can measure it by the test of time, but please don't base it on sales. That would make Norbit a classic.

I agree with you completely. I absolutely love this movie. I've lost a lot of people close to me in the last two years and it's been quite a struggle to move forward in life without them. I saw this movie when I took my little brother and I ended up seeing myself in some of the characters, especially Portman's Mahoney. The farewell scene was very emotional for me.

The film touched upon deep topics. It did not delve deeply into them. It stayed floating on the surface of the issues in favour of badly animated, CGI toys. I do believe that there is a truly great movie in there, but it's not the one we all saw.

I felt it was all over the place, it had a right mind set but it needed to tighten up its focus.

i feel like i have a pretty mature taste in movies, and this flick had me in tears. loved it. yeah, it's flawed, but it's just such a gosh-darned nice movie.

Ever think maybe the Critics are right and you just happen to like utter *beep*

reply

it's very subjective. remember, classic films that are now considered some of the most beloved flicks of all time, like Psycho and Vertigo, where hated by critics upon initial release. in those cases, me and many many others would consider the critics to have been wrong; i don't think it's very arguable, in those two cases at least, that the critics were right and we all just liked utter *beep*. who knows, maybe 50 years from now, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium will be considered a children's classic.

We like what we like. It's not a character flaw.

reply

I liked Beowulf AND I liked this movie, they were some of my fav's from last year. I don't think Beowulf was utter garbage but I agree with everything else you said :)

reply

Agreed OP, critics are pretentious snobs or sell good movie quotes like puppets. It's so funny people follow what strangers say is good and bad.

Plotholes are like Bigfoot, people who claim to see them are just trying to stir things up.

reply

I agree, critics are "just" people :)
